“What’s all this commotion about?” The man approached them. Behind him, a woman stood with an elegant air. She cast Elina a sidelong glance. Her arms were folded across her chest, and her chin was raised arrogantly.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Robert. This girl ran into our car,” the driver replied.
Elina’s eyes widened at his words. “What the hell? Don’t just accuse me of something I didn’t do. You’re old enough to be doing good deeds and earning blessings, but instead you’re slandering someone you don’t even know!” Elina snapped.
She turned her gaze to Robert. “I’m sorry, rich man with a driver who makes false accusations. I didn’t hit your car at all. Your driver cut into my path, so I got hit and fell. Look, my motorcycle’s damaged!”
Elina glared at Robert. She wasn’t intimidated in the slightest. The man stared at her intently, then looked over at Elina’s motorcycle, whose exhaust pipe had been bent.
“Watch your mouth. He’s Mr. ….”
“STOP!” Robert cut off his driver. The man lowered his head and stepped back. Robert then pulled out his wallet and several bills. “Is this enough to cover the damage to your motorcycle?”
The sight of so many red bills made Elina’s eyes widen. She looked at Robert, and the man smiled so sweetly that Elina’s heart melted.
“So this rich guy is actually nice,” Elina thought. For a moment, she admired the man standing in front of her.
“Hey, you! Is that still not enough money?” A soft yet incredibly arrogant voice came from Juliet, the woman standing beside Robert.
“Hmmm….”
Juliet let out a heavy sigh. “What a cheap little drama,” the woman sneered, rolling her eyes indifferently. It was as if she were mocking Elina’s very existence with a single glance.
“What exactly do you mean by that?” Elina refused to back down. She moved forward, intending to approach Juliet.
The driver immediately blocked her path. “Know your place!”
“Come on, Robert. We’re already late for this morning’s meeting. Don’t waste your time entertaining this gold digger!”
Juliet grabbed Robert’s arm and pulled him toward the car. Elina, unwilling to let it go, tried to follow them, but the driver blocked her once again.
Robert and Juliet got into the car. The woman gave Elina, who was still standing outside, a sneering smile and a mocking look.
“Drive, sir!” Juliet ordered.
The car sped away, leaving Elina standing there and glaring angrily after them. Her chest heaved. The scrapes on her elbows and knees no longer bothered her. Her heart hurt from being insulted like that.
“You arrogant jerks! Do you think you’re gods who deserve to be worshiped, huh?” Elina shouted. She shook a fist at Robert’s car, which had already driven far away and disappeared around the corner.
“Oh my God, I’m going to be late. I’m so unlucky to have run into those two crazy people!” Elina hurriedly straightened her slightly rumpled clothes. After trying several times, she finally managed to start her motorcycle.
A skyscraper towered before Elina. She stared at the magnificent building, its sign emblazoned in red and gold.
“This is really the place? Oh my God, it’s huge. Is there any chance I could actually get hired somewhere this luxurious?” Elina muttered. “The competition must be insane. Everyone here is so beautiful.”
She saw several other applicants entering the office. A slight sense of insecurity crept in as she realized there were far more candidates than she had expected.
“I can do this. Even if I don’t get accepted, at least I’ll have tried.” Elina straightened her back and summoned her confidence. Then she walked inside with the other candidates.
