After the woodshed door slammed shut, Lu Wan Yuting remained seated on the cold floor.
The engagement annulment papers lay in front of her, the ink not yet dry. The name Lu Wan Yuting had been written in careless strokes, as if the owner of this body’s life were worth no more than a discarded object.
Strange memories flooded her mind.
This body was the legitimate daughter of the Lu Estate, yet she had been oppressed by her stepmother since childhood. The engagement with the Crown Prince had originally been hers, but Lu Ruowei had needed only a few tears to convince everyone that she was the one who deserved pity.
And her? She had been locked in the woodshed, branded jealous, vicious, and useless.
Wan Yuting let out a soft laugh.
In the modern world, she had been a CEO who’d dragged a company on the verge of bankruptcy back onto the market. The moment she woke up, she’d been gifted a treacherous fiancé and a family that wanted her to starve to death.
This transmigration gift sure didn’t come with an ounce of sincerity.
She picked up a shard of broken porcelain by her foot, made a small cut on her fingertip, and used her blood to sign the engagement annulment papers.
“If you want to cut ties, then let’s cut them clean.”
She crumpled the paper into a ball and threw it through the crack beneath the door.
Outside in the courtyard, Chu Jing’s voice immediately rang out. “You still dare to cause trouble?”
“I’m just returning the trash to its rightful owner.”
Silence fell outside.
A moment later, the lock clicked. No one answered her. No one intended to open the door, either.
Wan Yuting looked at the pitch-black room without the slightest trace of panic. She rummaged through the pile of firewood and found a tarnished silver hairpin. The moment she touched it, a cold, mechanical voice suddenly rang out in her mind.
“Ding! The 2026 Supermarket System has been activated.”
A translucent glowing panel appeared before her.
“Exchangeable item: old silver hairpin. Value: ten System points.”
Wan Yuting fell silent for three breaths.
Then she asked, “Do you sell food?”
“Yes.”
“Do you have an antidote?”
“Yes.”
“Do you have anything that’ll help me live better than the people who just left me behind?”
The System paused for a moment before replying, “There are plenty of options.”
Wan Yuting smiled.
“Then open the shop.”
A self-heating hot pot appeared in the middle of the woodshed. Next came a bottle of soda so cold that condensation covered its entire surface.
Its aroma rose into the air, overpowering even the musty smell.
Wan Yuting ate while studying the System panel. Beside the antidote, a line of red text suddenly appeared.
“Warning: Blackbone Powder remains in the host’s body. Estimated survival time: three months.”
She set down her chopsticks.
So the owner of this body hadn’t merely been abandoned. She’d been poisoned, too.
Wan Yuting exchanged all her remaining points for the antidote. Bitterness spread across her tongue, followed by a wave of heat coursing through her meridians. She clenched her fists and endured the pain until cold sweat soaked through the back of her clothes.
When everything finally settled, she looked at her reflection on the surface of the bottle.
The face was still weak and delicate, but the eyes had changed.
“Three months?” Wan Yuting gave a cold laugh. “I’ll make them regret not killing me sooner.”
Outside the door, the long night still waited.
But for the first time since her transmigration, she was no longer the person trapped in the woodshed.
She had a System.
And soon, she’d have an entire business empire, too.
