From the beginning of time, two races existed in Dawnrealm—races believed to be forever incapable of becoming one.
The reaperfolk, who governed death. The goblinfolk, who lived with life, laughter, and flame in their hearts.
Reapers gained near-eternal life in exchange for abandoning their emotions. They guarded the dead on their final journey and lived beneath the cold moonlight. Goblins lived shorter lives than reapers, but carried hearts hotter than anyone else's. They laughed and loved, lighting the darkness with the warmth of golden flames.
One side symbolized death. The other symbolized life. The two races could not understand each other. Reapers thought the goblins' emotions foolish, while goblins feared the reapers' coldness. Long-standing misunderstandings became barriers, and those barriers eventually turned into hatred. For thousands of years, the two races never crossed into each other's lands.
Love between a reaper and a goblin was considered the greatest taboo. And one ancient prophecy had been passed down among both races.
'On the day two different flames meet within a single heart, the night of Dawnrealm shall end. But that dawn will surely demand a blood price.'
No one knew who had first left behind that prophecy. People merely interpreted its words through their own fears. If a reaper and a goblin fell in love, disaster would come. To prevent that disaster, someone would have to be sacrificed. Over the long years, fear repeated again and again became a belief stronger than the truth. Neither reapers nor goblins ever doubted the legend.
Not until that day.
