Anggi was still staring at the black book lying on the floor. The words that had just appeared on the blank page made her thoughts even more chaotic.
"You finally found me."
That sentence kept spinning through her head.
"Anggi, we have to get out of here," Rara said softly.
Anggi didn't answer right away. Her eyes remained fixed on the book.
"I feel like... all of this has something to do with me."
Rara quickly shook her head.
"Don't start imagining things. You just moved into this house."
"Then how does she know my name?"
Rara fell silent.
There was no answer she could give.
Suddenly, the knocking from the front door started again.
Knock.
Knock.
Knock.
This time, it was quieter.
Like someone was knocking patiently.
Anggi and Rara looked at each other.
"What if it's not a normal person?" Rara whispered.
Anggi picked up the black book and put it in her bag.
"We shouldn't open the door."
They slowly backed away.
But after they had taken only a few steps, another sound came from the back of the house.
The sound of a door opening.
Creeeak...
Anggi immediately turned around.
"The back door..."
They were sure all the doors had been closed earlier.
Rara began to panic.
"Anggi, I think this house doesn't want us to leave."
The words made Anggi even more afraid.
They headed toward the kitchen. They had only one hope: to find another way out.
But when they arrived, they found something that made them stop.
There were wet footprints on the kitchen floor.
The footprints came from the back door and led toward the living room.
Even though no one was there.
Anggi crouched down and examined them.
"These are fresh."
Rara immediately pulled her hand away.
"Don't touch them."
Anggi stood up.
"Someone is in this house."
They carefully made their way back to the living room.
As they passed through the hallway, Anggi noticed something on the wall.
An old photograph she had never seen before.
It showed the same house.
But someone was standing in front of it.
A little girl.
Anggi moved closer.
The girl's face looked very much like the one in the earlier photograph.
"Her again..." Anggi murmured.
Rara looked at the photograph.
"Why are all the pictures of her here?"
Anggi didn't answer.
Suddenly, a voice came from upstairs.
"Anggi..."
They immediately turned around.
It was the same voice as before.
The voice of a little girl.
"Where are you?" Anggi shouted without thinking.
Rara immediately grabbed her arm.
"Don't answer."
But it was already too late.
The voice came again.
"I'm upstairs."
Anggi stared at the stairs.
She was deeply afraid, but her curiosity was growing stronger too.
"I have to find out who she is."
Rara shook her head.
"Anggi, sometimes there are things we're better off not finding out about."
"But if I keep staying quiet, she'll remain in this house."
Rara looked at her friend's face.
She knew Anggi had already made up her mind.
At last, they slowly climbed the stairs.
Every step felt heavy.
The wooden stairs creaked each time they stepped on them.
Creak.
Creak.
Creak.
When they reached the top, they saw a long hallway lined with several bedroom doors.
One of the doors was slightly open.
From inside came the mysterious smell they had been searching for all this time.
The smell was getting stronger.
Anggi stood in front of the door.
"This is where it's coming from."
Rara put a hand on her shoulder.
"Anggi..."
"I'll just go in for a second."
"Not alone."
Anggi nodded.
Together, they opened the door.
The room was darker than the previous one.
There wasn't much inside.
Only a small chair, an old doll, and a large mirror covered with a white cloth.
Anggi immediately felt a chill run through her body.
Because from behind the cloth came a soft sound.
Like someone was crying.
Rara stared at the mirror.
"Did you hear that?"
Anggi nodded.
They slowly approached the mirror.
When Anggi's hand touched the white cloth, the crying stopped.
The room suddenly fell silent.
Then a whisper emerged.
"Don't open it..."
Anggi froze.
It wasn't the voice of the little girl who had called out to her earlier.
It sounded like a warning.
And right after that, the white cloth covering the mirror began to move on its own.
Little by little, it slipped free.
Anggi and Rara backed away.
Because they realized that whatever had been hidden behind the mirror all this time might be the answer to every mystery in the house.
