Chapter 5: I Want to Go Home

I believed moving from Jakarta to Bandung would just be a short-lived nightmare. I was mistaken. At my new school, I had to deal with a language I couldn't understand, classmates I didn't know, a life far from the sparkle of the capital, and a friendship that gradually transformed my life. In the beginning, everything was lovely. We studied together. Played together. Walked home from school together. We even went to Quran study together. Until we reached our second year. One after another, my friends started to change. Some grew obsessed with looks. Some chased the attention of senior students. Some fell into a love that never should have happened. Then one afternoon, I witnessed something that made it impossible to see my school the same way again. A secret. A forbidden relationship. And a friend who, it turned out, was hiding a life I never knew existed. From that day forward, I understood... beneath the white-and-blue uniforms, not every story was as lovely as its memories. And maybe adolescence isn't about finding out who we are. It's about learning how to survive when the people we love start to change.
