When they arrived at the cafeteria, Rachel ordered a glass of orange juice and a serving of tteokbokki for Deisha, just as she had promised, while ordering an avocado juice for herself.
As usual, the cafeteria was fairly crowded with students enjoying their breakfast while waiting for the bell to ring.
“So, which university are you going to apply to?” Deisha asked after managing to take a sip of her orange juice.
Rachel shook her head wearily. “Mom won’t let me apply there because she’s worried I won’t get in.”
“Then where are you going to apply?” Deisha asked again.
“I don’t know. Mom gave me the names of two universities she thinks would be a good fit for me.”
Deisha fell silent. This wasn’t the first time Rachel had been forced to doubt her abilities and do as her mother said. Throughout Rachel’s life, Deisha had watched her grow into someone who lacked confidence in her own abilities. It was the result of Rachel’s mother’s upbringing—she was always doubting what Rachel could do.
“Are you still unable to convince your mom this time?” Deisha asked again.
Rachel let out a long sigh. “How can I convince Mom when I’m not even confident myself?” she said wearily. “Mom’s right. I might not get in if I apply to the same university as you,” she continued.
Deisha clicked her tongue. “Come on, how long are you going to keep doubting yourself?”
“I don’t know. It’s so hard for me to make other people believe that I can do it.”
A short while later, the cafeteria suddenly grew even noisier. Several girls tried to hold back hysterical screams when they saw three boys walking toward the cafeteria. One of them was the male student who had stolen the hearts of every girl in the school.
Draco Choi was a handsome student who had captured the hearts of all the girls at school. Draco looked perfect to everyone who saw him. On top of that, he excelled in both academics and sports. No wonder the field became packed whenever the girls wanted to watch Draco play basketball.
“Aren’t they being a little over the top?” Rachel asked Deisha as she watched several girls act hysterical just because Draco was walking toward the cafeteria.
Deisha laughed. “Can’t you see it? Draco shines brighter than all the other boys.”
Rachel nodded with a smile. “Yeah, you’re right,” she replied before returning to her avocado juice.
“Among all the girls at this school, I’ve noticed that Draco is only interested in you. Aren’t you interested in him? Don’t you think he’s handsome and dazzling too?” Deisha asked.
Rachel looked at Draco as he drew closer to the cafeteria. “Yeah, he is handsome and dazzling. But he still can’t compare to the guy I like.”
“Who?” Deisha asked suspiciously.
Rachel flashed a wide smile as she reached into her bag for her wallet and pulled out a photo from inside it.
Deisha clicked her tongue. “Ah, I already knew it.”
“Tadaaa!” Rachel looked delighted as she held the photo up to Deisha’s face.
It was a photo of a handsome idol named Kim Sean. Of all the handsome idols in South Korea, Kim Sean was the only one Rachel had declared to be her ideal type.
“Hey, Kim Sean isn’t the guy you like. He’s the guy you admire and idolize,” Deisha said.
