# The Future [TOWER VINN BIOTECH LABORATORY & RESEARCH, YEAR 3313] Phew...
Hexa exhaled cigarette smoke. Suddenly, he remembered the incident that had occurred while fighting the Monster that had emerged from a crack in the earth toward the forest.
“Ah. Bitter memories,” he muttered, shaking his head. “Why did I accept this company’s offer? Tch.”
Ring!
He glanced at the call on his phone, occasionally looking at the ID bracelet displayed on his holographic display.
Ring!
Chief of Security of VBL&R Name: Hexa Lin Code: S-HL/TF/Elite Age: 35 y Classification: Military
He shut off his holographic display.
Ring!
Click.
“Hexa.”
“Can you come here?” someone asked from the other end of the phone.
“Okay, I’ll be there.”
Hexa turned off his phone, then extinguished and tossed away the cigarette he had just smoked.
He realized something about nature—the feeling that had been with him for a while. Flocks of birds were flying toward the ocean.
He hurried to meet the person who had contacted him.
“Finally,” Noah Vinn greeted him. “Get the helicopter ready,” he continued.
“What for?” Hexa replied.
“We’re leaving now. Askja Glacier.”
“The central laboratory? Isn’t it out of operation?”
“Generally speaking. But I still use it.”
“Ah. All right.”
When they reached the top of the tower, a massive black helicopter was already waiting. Its rotors began to spin.
A few minutes later, they flew toward Askja Glacier, Vinn Biotech Laboratory and Research—the central laboratory.
Below them stretched a world living in the shadow of the remaining Monsters.
Some settlements were still standing amid the ruins, while farms and forests were beginning to grow again, and...
The ocean was partially frozen from the eruption a century ago.
Hexa sighed.
“What’s wrong?” Noah asked with a faint smile.
“Nothing.”
“Are you thinking about your past?” Noah asked.
“What are you doing alone in a laboratory that’s no longer operating?” Hexa countered.
“Isn’t it obvious?”
“What do you mean?”
“Look around you. What if I threw you out of this helicopter?”
“Don’t even think about it...”
Noah looked away. “I want to wipe them all out.”
Hexa was startled. “How?” he asked.
Noah handed his tablet to Hexa. “Here.”
“...I found it five years ago. All my research, day and night, might... finally pay off.”
“Pay off?”
“Yeah. Pay off.”
“What is this?” Hexa asked, looking at the tablet. It showed a recording of a tiny organism that could kill and heal the ‘animal’ Noah had used in his experiments.
“There’s a possibility that the organism’s blood can be used to create a serum or a vaccine—or the opposite. I don’t know. I haven’t figured it out yet, which is why I brought you to the central laboratory.”
“You’re insane?! That could be a virus! We don’t know where it came from. Tch! Don’t do anything stupid, buddy,” Hexa said, returning the tablet to Noah. He shook his head in disbelief.
“I’ll analyze and modify the organism again, if possible. I can’t conduct experiments in the laboratory at my house or in the tower because I need something... alive.
“The organism I found might be able to kill the remaining Monsters. I’ll run another trial there. You get me the Monster I need,” Noah Vinn continued. He was a genius scientist—the third generation of his family to enter the field.
“Isn’t that dangerous? You tested it first on a healthy animal? And now you want me to find a Monster? You’re going to test it on a Monster? Is that it? You want to modify it without knowing its effects on a Monster, huh?! Looks like that brilliant brain of yours has finally moved out! Hah!” Hexa snapped angrily.
“Calm down. I’m going to create something new. This discovery could benefit biotech and the people dying from Monster attacks. I know science is dangerous. Didn’t you accept the offer to work for biotech because you’re just as dangerous?”
Hexa didn’t answer. He kept thinking that this was a mistake he had made.
“Hexa. I know you hate this. But think about the whole team you left behind.”
Hexa was shocked and felt sorry for himself. “I never left them, damn it! You don’t know anything. So shut that big mouth of yours!” he said firmly. “Damn fox,” he continued cursing inwardly.
[ASKJA GLACIER MOUNTAIN: VINN CENTRAL LABORATORY, BIOTECH LAB. & RESEARCH]
They arrived in the afternoon. The massive laboratory had stood there for three centuries.
“Brrr... It’s freezing up here in the north! Tch! I hate the cold!” Hexa complained.
Two centuries ago, the laboratory had been reopened by its successor: Noah Vinn’s late father. This was where several vaccines and medicines first began being distributed to the public.
That led to the Age of Peace, during which Hexa’s family received that ‘blessing.’ And it was his parents who had made it possible.
A small glacial tremor shook the ground, so Hexa ordered the operator to remain on guard. “Stay on standby. Don’t shut down the engines. Wait for my orders,” he instructed.
“Parts of the building were damaged by the constant glacial activity. It’s still relatively safe here. You can find me an F-type Monster to the north of this building,” Noah requested without warning.
