Tofu is perfect for eating alone.
One package is just right for two meals.
Today, we'll pan-fry half of it first.
Start by patting the moisture off the surface of the tofu.
Don't skip this step.
If there's too much water, it'll splatter when it hits the pan, and it'll also be harder to brown the surface.
Cut it into slightly thick slices.
If they're too thin, they'll break easily when you flip them.
Today, we'll let them cook slowly.
【Ingredients】
- 1/2 package firm tofu, about 150 grams - 1 tablespoon cooking oil - A pinch of salt - A pinch of black pepper - 1 teaspoon soy sauce
【Instructions】
1. Remove the firm tofu from its package and drain off the water. Pat the surface dry with a paper towel. 2. Cut it into slices about 2 centimeters thick. 3. Add the cooking oil to a skillet and heat over medium heat. 4. Add the tofu, making sure each slice lies flat against the pan. 5. Don't rush to move it around after adding it to the pan. Cook for about 3 to 4 minutes. 6. Once the bottom is golden brown and the tofu can be gently lifted with a spatula, flip it over. 7. Continue cooking the other side for about 2 to 3 minutes, until both sides are golden brown. 8. Sprinkle with a little salt and black pepper. 9. Pour the soy sauce around the edge of the pan, then quickly stir-fry the tofu so the soy sauce lightly coats the surface. 10. Turn off the heat and transfer the tofu to a plate.
The outside of the tofu is lightly golden.
The inside is still tender.
It holds together when you pick it up with chopsticks.
Serve it onto a plate.
Eat well.
