Chapter 3: Magical Appraisal Ability (Part 1)
After the mystery box was destroyed, Louis's common sense returned.
His father had warned him before. He had told Louis never to open this mystery box by force. Otherwise, something terrifying would happen.
Therefore, Louis began to regret destroying the box. He certainly hadn't expected to throw it so hard that it would break apart. He waited, feeling both frightened and curious. However, Louis didn't find that anything terrible had happened.
After the box was destroyed, the only thing that fell out was a jade ring. Nothing else happened.
Louis crouched down and carefully examined the jade ring.
Judging by its size, this ring was meant to be worn on the thumb. Judging by its quality, it was definitely made of jade, and it seemed to be high-quality jade. Even so, everything about it felt too strange. A jade ring like this wasn't enough to make anyone believe that its existence could change one's fate.
Selling the ring to an antique shop was still an option.
However, what Louis needed right now wasn't a little money, but a way to obtain a large amount of money. So what use was this jade ring?
That was what Louis thought, but this item was his family's treasure.
It would indeed be an exaggeration to say that the ring could change someone's fate. Even so, it was still worth keeping safe.
Therefore, Louis picked up the jade ring again. At first, he planned to put it in his pocket, but he suddenly grew curious about what it would feel like to wear the jade ring. Louis then put it on the thumb of his left hand. Immediately afterward, both of his eyes began to ache terribly.
"My eyes! Ahh!!"
Louis cried out in pain. He squeezed his eyes shut and fell onto the floor.
Fortunately, this condition didn't last long. In less than half a minute, the pain disappeared. However, Louis's clothes were already drenched in sweat. That showed just how painful his eyes had been.
"Why did this happen?"
Louis blinked repeatedly. He wanted to see whether he had gone blind. Fortunately, his eyes were fine. He could still see normally, and the rest of his body wasn't injured either.
So why had he suddenly felt pain?
Louis remembered his father's warning. Could this be what he had meant by something terrifying? No, it couldn't be that simple. Still, the pain had struck the moment he put on the jade ring. That was why Louis believed the two were connected.
Louis was a little afraid that his eyes might start hurting again. He planned to take off the jade ring first. Unexpectedly, the jade ring wouldn't budge at all!
"Huh? Why can't I take it off?"
No matter how much strength Louis used, he still couldn't remove the jade ring. He even went to the kitchen to get cooking oil and lubricate his finger. But Louis still failed to take it off. The jade ring seemed to have fused with his hand. Not only could he not remove it, he couldn't even move it.
Louis was powerless to do anything about it. He had no choice but to give up on removing the ring for the time being. Fortunately, his eyes no longer hurt. It was already 3:00 a.m. Louis still had to go to work the next day, so he planned to sleep now and deal with the rest in the morning.
Louis went to brush his teeth and wash his face. However, just as his hand grasped the toothbrush, a toothbrush that could be bought anywhere suddenly displayed
a series of words!
"Production year: 2021; Estimated sale value: Rp 0; Sale difficulty: Extremely high."
Louis had been alive for 23 years, and this was the first time he had experienced something like this. He truly couldn't believe his own eyes. How could these words appear on his toothbrush? More importantly, the words weren't engraved on the toothbrush. They were floating around it. Yet when Louis reached out to grab them, his hand closed on nothing.
That meant Louis was the only one who could see these words. In reality, the words didn't exist at all.
"What exactly happened?"
While Louis was confused, he glanced at the toothpaste beside the toothbrush. Unexpectedly, words appeared around the toothpaste as well!
"Production year: 2020; Sale value: Rp 1,000; Sale difficulty: Extremely high."
Louis rubbed his eyes repeatedly, utterly bewildered.
