Brother Abhimanyu smiled faintly before answering.
“With all due respect to the elders, this kingdom can stand not only because of the nobles, the entire parliament, and the royal family, but because of all the people of the Kingdom of Indonesia, regardless of their backgrounds.”
“If we forget that and abuse our privileges, treating all the people and this country however we please, I wouldn’t be surprised if they became disappointed in us and no longer wanted to be part of this country.”
“From the history we’ve studied, no throne that has lost the people’s trust can survive.”
“As the heir to the throne, it is my duty to create programs and make decisions that can help all my people without exception, including the Parents’ Study Room and the Learning House for underprivileged children,” Brother Abhimanyu said firmly.
The entire room suddenly fell silent.
I gaped at him, awestruck by my brother’s wisdom. Father and Mother smiled proudly, while Brother Aarav laughed happily.
The elders looked uncomfortable, especially the duke.
After a while, the luncheon resumed, and the extended royal family began chatting with one another again.
I decided to stay there for another thirty minutes before saying goodbye and leaving.
I went out to the balcony at the far end of the reception hall. I needed a little fresh air.
“Riri,” Brother Abhimanyu called.
I turned around and smiled. “You escaped too, Brother?”
Brother Abhimanyu only chuckled.
“I was really touched and proud of what you said earlier, Brother. You’re right. The people are the foundation of our country, regardless of their backgrounds. Without them, what meaning would this kingdom have?” I said.
Brother Abhimanyu smiled and put an arm around my shoulders.
“Riri, there are many officials, nobles, and parliamentarians in this country who abuse their power and only think about lining their own pockets. But there are also good people who use their special privileges for the benefit of the people and the advancement of the country. Just like you,” Brother Abhimanyu said, looking at me with a proud smile.
I was startled.
“But, Brother, I still have my shortcomings. I still have to work harder because I was born with so many privileges. No matter what I do, there are always people who look down on me,” I replied.
“We can never satisfy everyone’s wishes, Riri. All we can do is try our best and fulfill our duties and responsibilities for the good of the people and this country,” Brother Abhimanyu said gently.
“Yes, Brother, I understand. I won’t disappoint our family, and I’ll take responsibility for my duties and obligations,” I said.
Brother Abhimanyu smiled proudly and gently stroked my head.
Bang!
The balcony door flew open.
“Why did you leave me all alone while you two were having fun out here?” Brother Aarav demanded.
I sighed and said, “Come on, Brother Abhimanyu. Let’s go back inside.”
Brother Aarav narrowed his eyes and pinched my cheek hard.
“Oh, great. The moment I show up, you two suddenly want to leave,” Brother Aarav complained.
“Ow! That hurts! Brother Abhimanyu!” I cried.
“Aarav, let go! Riri’s in pain,” Brother Abhimanyu scolded.
The pinch on my cheek finally loosened.
I rubbed my reddened cheek and glared at Brother Aarav.
“Just wait. You’ll see my revenge later, Brother Aarav,” I hissed.
Brother Aarav gave me a mischievous smile and only fanned the flames further.
“It’s still a thousand years too soon for you to get revenge on me,” Brother Aarav replied.
