# Chapter 6
I walked down the hall looking for my second period Math class. While walking down the hall, I bumped into a group of three girls. They looked like the typical group of mean girls, so I knew that this was about to be fun—or so I thought.
"Oh, I'm so sorry! Are you okay?" asked the girl in front. She was tall, slim, and a dark-skinned beauty. "You must be new here. I'm Bridget, and these are my friends Jennifer and Kim."
Jennifer, a tall, skinny Asian American girl, stepped up next to her. "Hey," she said, giving a friendly wave.
"Hey," echoed Kim, a light-skinned girl with striking hazel eyes, smiling right along with them.
"I'm Krystal," I said, adjusting my bag. "I was actually just looking for room 204 for Math."
"No way, we all have Math together right now!" Bridget said, her face lighting up. "Follow us, we'll show you where it is."
I blinked, keeping my guard up as I fell in line with the three of them. I definitely wasn't expecting them to be this welcoming, but at least I wasn't going to be lost on my first day.
When we got to the class, we were five minutes late, and I grabbed the seat right behind Bridget.
"Nice of you to join us, ladies," a tall, brown-skinned, pretty woman said from the front of the room.
I raised my hand.
"I'm sorry we're late," I offered, shifting uncomfortably under her gaze.
"Since you're already on your feet, why don't you go ahead and introduce yourself to the class?" she asked, gesturing toward the room.
I internally groaned. The last thing I wanted to do was stand up here and play show-and-tell, but I forced a small smile and turned to face everyone. "Hi, I'm Krystal Peek. I just moved here, over to the old mansion on Church Street."
The whole class went dead silent when I said that. I quickly sat back down in my seat.
"Well, it's nice to meet you, Krystal," Ms. Michelson said, breaking the heavy silence with a warm smile. "My name is Ms. Michelson. Now let's go ahead and get started."
