Laras's face lit up at the news. Hearing such wonderful news felt like a breath of fresh air.
"Then how can I meet the foundation's director, Sister?" Laras asked eagerly.
"You don't need to go through the trouble of meeting him. Apparently, he'll be stopping by here next week to discuss this further."
Sister Retha then handed her a slip of paper that was the foundation owner's business card.
"Keep this, Sister Laras. In case you need anything or want to ask more questions, this is Mr. Bram's business card. He's in charge of the foundation."
Laras accepted the business card from Sister Retha and carefully read the name printed on it. She was somewhat startled by the name, but quickly pushed aside her suspicions. It seemed impossible to her that the name on the card could belong to someone she had once known.
Sister Retha seemed to realize that something was troubling Laras. It showed in her changing expression and demeanor.
"What's wrong, Sister? You look troubled."
"Oh... no, it's nothing." Laras tried to brush it off and hide it from her.
Once everything was settled, Laras quickly excused herself and left Sister Retha's office.
Meanwhile, several days passed. Bram continued to wear a gloomy expression, to the point that even his secretary was afraid to greet him or remind him of his schedule. But if she didn't remind him, this particular appointment was important too. With some trepidation, Ana, Bram's personal secretary, gathered the courage to see him. She walked toward the door of Bram's office.
Knock... knock... knock...!
Ana knocked on the door to Bram's office, her hand trembling slightly.
"Come in!" A rough, booming voice from inside startled Ana.
Ana slowly opened the door and stepped inside, frightened and anxious. She was afraid her boss might suddenly get angry and fire her.
"What?" Bram barked.
"It's, sir, um... It's tomorrow," Ana replied haltingly, her voice trembling with fear.
"What? Speak clearly. What's happening tomorrow?" Bram snapped at Ana.
"Tomorrow, you have a schedule for a humanitarian social event in Yogya, sir."
"What event?"
"You have an event at Theresia Convent, sir," Ana answered nervously.
Bram was silent for a moment, as though thinking and trying to remember something, then answered Ana's question.
"Just get everything ready. I'll be leaving tomorrow," Bram replied, somewhat calmer.
"All right, sir. So should I book your ticket now? For tomorrow?" Ana asked, seeking clarification.
But instead of a pleasant answer, Bram fixed Ana with an angry glare. Ana looked frightened and quickly excused herself from Bram's office.
That was Bram. Lately, his days had been filled with emotion and anger. Perhaps because he was still relatively young, his unstable temperament continued to erupt explosively.
The next day, Bram took a 9 a.m. flight and arrived in Yogya around 1 p.m. He immediately headed to Theresia Convent in a taxi from the airport.
As it turned out, Sister Retha and Laras had been waiting since morning for Bram's arrival.
In the courtyard of Theresia Convent, a car could be seen from inside Sister Retha's office. The name displayed on it identified it as an airport transport vehicle, essentially a taxi.
Sister Retha and Laras hurried out of her office to welcome their special guest, whom they had been expecting for a week.
Confidently, Bram got out of the car and walked over to meet Sister Retha, the head Sister there.
For Laras, seeing who stepped out of the car was like a dream. It was none other than Bram, her former boyfriend from high school. It felt like a dream, and she could hardly believe that the person in charge of the foundation that would be working with her was none other than Bram, her former boyfriend. Yet Laras continued to hide their past from Sister Retha.
Bram quickly walked over to Sister Retha, who had been waiting for him from a distance.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Bram!" Sister Retha greeted him as she shook his hand.
Bram shook Sister Retha's hand with a friendly smile, but he looked utterly stunned when he saw the Sister standing beside her. That Sister was none other than Laras—the person he had been searching for all this time.
"Let me introduce you to Sister Laras. She'll be responsible for the social project we'll be carrying out together," Sister Retha said, introducing Laras to Bram.
Bram fell silent for a moment as he looked at Laras. Laras, in turn, stood silently looking at Bram.
