He had never seen the tall teacher before. Judging by the man's fashionable appearance, it seemed impossible that he was a teacher. The man appeared to be looking for someone.
He promptly walked over to Inaya, who was sitting around doing nothing because it was break time.
“Excuse me, miss, do you know where Ms. Inaya is?” Inaya giggled when she heard the man call her miss. Her slender, petite figure often led people to mistake her for a high school girl.
“Ooh, Ms. Ina, hmm! Hmm!” cheered a group of sixth-grade students passing a few steps away from Inaya.
Inaya placed her index finger in front of her thin lips, signaling for the students to stop cheering.
“Can I help you? I’m Inaya.” Inaya smiled warmly.
Alfiq scratched his itchy-free head. So the girl his Umi had matched him with was still a child? She was nothing like the middle-aged woman Alfiq had expected—in his mind, Inaya had been some completely unattractive motherly type.
“She’s not so bad after all!” Alfiq thought as he studied Inaya.
“So you’re Inaya?”
“Yes, sir.”
“You’re calling me sir?!” Alfiq’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Inaya merely nodded without answering. Meanwhile, Alfiq shook his head, utterly baffled.
“What grade do you teach?” Inaya added, making Alfiq gape.
“You’ve never seen my picture before?”
Inaya furrowed her brow. She didn’t understand the new teacher standing before her. What a narcissistic teacher, she thought.
“Just walk straight ahead, then turn left. You’ll see a room labeled Principal’s Office. You can meet with the principal first,” Inaya explained at length.
Alfiq let out a heavy sigh. He felt like shouting at the little girl standing before him. Once again, she had called him sir.
“Do you know my name?!”
Inaya shook her head.
“My name is Alfiq Zulfaik!”
Inaya jumped in surprise when she heard the man’s full name. Alfiq, meanwhile, looked pleased with himself for managing to introduce himself by his full name.
“Your name sounds like my prospective husband’s.” The woman furrowed her brow, slightly doubtful.
Alfiq smacked his own forehead. He regretted not giving his Umi a picture when she had asked him for one back then.
“I’m your prospective husband, you brat!”
Inaya blinked her long, curled lashes as if she’d been struck by lightning in broad daylight. She was shocked by the man’s words. She had never met her future husband before. She had only seen a picture of him once, at his graduation. She hadn’t expected him to look so mature and handsome—just like the rumors she’d heard.
“S-so you’re Umi Salma’s son?”
“I’m not your father, so don’t call me sir!”
“Pfft...!” Inaya covered her mouth to hold back her laughter.
Alfiq glared at the slender girl before him. She had some nerve laughing at him.
“I’m here because Umi forced me to come. Our wedding is in three days. Tomorrow, Umi’s taking us to get our outfits fitted,” Alfiq explained, staring flatly at Inaya.
“Umi already messaged me on WhatsApp, Mas.”
“What?”
Inaya chuckled when her prospective husband’s initially expressionless face turned explosive. The man looked funny to her.
“Don’t laugh at me, brat!” Alfiq threatened coldly.
“Yes, I’m sorry, Mas.” Inaya lowered her head obediently. She didn’t want to make Alfiq even angrier.
