“I feel like it,” Meyka replied.
She’d always had two-tone lips, which was why she used lipstick so often to cover them up. But honestly, the lips on the body she’d possessed were incredibly alluring. They were peach-colored, and even without any makeup, they still looked soft and plump.
“Mama’s weird,” the little girl Meyka guessed was her daughter pouted.
Having a small family and living separately from her in-laws and parents had been her dream for as long as she could remember. And now, somehow, she had all of it.
Even if this is a dream, I’m still happy I was allowed to experience it. Meyka wanted to say that, but no dream had ever felt this real. She could feel the little girl’s soft touch. The child still seemed to be a toddler.
Was this girl really her daughter?
I don’t know where she came from, suddenly calling me Mama. But she sure is cute. As someone who should’ve been crying in a corner—or at the very least, throwing a fit and tearing apart the wedding stage—she was instead standing here, staring blankly.
“Weird how?” she replied, far too casually.
“That’s what’s weird about Mama now. Why aren’t you saying hi to Anca?” the little girl asked, narrowing her eyes.
Oh my God, she’s so cute! Was Meyka really allowed to play this role?
“Sweetheart, come eat. You seem kind of down,” the man who might have been the body’s original owner chuckled.
“You cooked?” she asked in surprise.
Just a little while ago, the man had still been in bed, sleeping beside her. They’d even woken up together, so how had he found the time to prepare all this food?
When the man in front of her burst out laughing, Meyka was even more confused. Had she asked something wrong? Why was he laughing at her?
“You cooked all of this last night before we went to bed. Why are you suddenly so forgetful, sweetheart?” the man continued, making her feel awkward.
Meyka winced even harder. She had cooked it? She could make tamarind vegetable soup, clear vegetable soup, lodeh, and things like that. But European food like this? No way could she make it.
The things served in front of her looked strange. Besides, didn’t Europeans usually just eat bread for breakfast? Why was their breakfast this extravagant?
“Mama’s scary, Dad,” her daughter teased.
Meyka let out a heavy sigh. What were her child’s and husband’s names? She was afraid of calling them by the wrong names or saying the wrong thing. If this was a dream, shouldn’t it have ended by now? And yet it still felt unreal, as if it were all just an elaborate fabrication.
“Anca, sit still. Mama’s tired,” her husband said.
Oh… Anca, huh?
This time, a smile spread across Meyka’s face. So the little girl’s name was Anca, and she was her only daughter?
“Sweetheart, come sit down. Want me to feed you?”
That friendly greeting, that captivating smile, that flawless bare face. Oh God, how could a man this handsome exist in the world?
“Feed me?” Meyka repeated to make sure she’d heard correctly.
Of course, the man’s smile grew even wider. With an impossibly sweet expression, he nodded and said, “Want to sit on my lap too?”
Meyka glared at him in disbelief, then glanced at Anca. Instead of staring blankly, the little girl giggled.
“Come on, Mama. Why are you shy? You usually do this,” the little girl said.
“Come here, sweetheart,” her husband added.
Good grief. Was she allowed to call him her husband? Besides, no matter how she looked at it, she wanted to consider this a gift from the Creator for having tortured her mentally to the breaking point. So she was allowed to enjoy it, right?
Only three hours ago, Meyka had said she would enjoy this luxurious life. But at this very moment, she felt as if she were standing at the edge of a cliff. The man who claimed to be her husband really did look sweet, adorable, and charming. It had never even crossed her mind that she would end up with a mother-in-law this nasty!
“How nice to lie around sleeping while my son has to work overtime like a horse.”
So dramatic, Meyka thought.
Well, as a wife who was always home keeping him company, if she wasn’t allowed to spend her husband’s money, whose money was she supposed to spend? Some sugar daddy’s? Crazy mother-in-law.
“You’ve never been grateful for anything. I’ve opened stores for you everywhere, and all you have to do is manage them. Why are you still so lazy?”
Huh? Meyka had been half-conscious while listening to nearly an hour of incomprehensible rambling, but now she suddenly looked energized. Of course, she couldn’t waste such a great opportunity to dig for information.
But was she really a boss? In her previous life, she’d been nothing more than a laborer, doing odd jobs for a wage far below the minimum wage. So when she heard that she was a boss here, her interest in giving orders suddenly came alive.
“What stores?” Meyka asked, pretending not to care.
“Those! You think I don’t know Hans opened minimarts everywhere for you?”
“Oh, those little things?” Meyka sneered.
Inside, however, she was cheering. Damn, was she really his boss?
But where were they? How was she supposed to find out? Honestly, she hadn’t received any information at all. In the novels she’d read, people usually got transferred memories or something. Why hadn’t that happened to her?
Ugh, she was going to lose her mind!
Meyka yawned widely, no longer feeling excited. Even if she was a boss, she still didn’t know anything. Where was she supposed to start? She didn’t even understand what area she was in.
Did she really need to dig for information? But the damn phone had nothing useful on it. Even if it did, it was only filled with trivial things. If she started asking questions, people might think she was weird. Wait a second. Hadn’t her beautiful mother-in-law said that she didn’t want to know anything? So if she wanted to know now, wouldn’t that be a good thing?
With a sly smile, Meyka stared at the ocean-themed wedding photo. What she saw in front of her really was the stuff of her dreams. Her dream wedding—especially the baby-blue wedding gown, the glittering fabric, the beautiful crown, and the smile that looked so sincere.
Marriage was something she’d always longed for. It looked simple, but it was actually so difficult to attain. The universe seemed to be joking with her fate.
Meyka looked at her mother-in-law, who was of course still rambling on and commenting on all kinds of things. With a long sigh, Meyka rose from the sofa. Then she turned to look at her mother-in-law again.
“Mooom, if I manage everything, not a single cent of your son’s money is going into your account,” Meyka teased, intending to brag.
But who would’ve thought her mother-in-law’s answer would be so completely outrageous? The woman, who looked to be around fifty, burst out laughing for the first time.
In a mocking tone, she said, “Hello? Since when has he ever given his money to me? Ever since you became his girlfriend back in elementary school, all his money has gone to you, hasn’t it?”
Meyka’s eyes widened. What?! He’d been supporting her since elementary school, and even now, that man was still this sweet? How could she be this lucky—and why had she ever left that luxurious life?
Meyka secretly asked herself the question. What was behind all of this that made the body’s original owner so unwilling to return?
Meyka sighed again and again. Could something that looked simple really be hiding a million meanings?
