Jerryana let out a long sigh, staring at the towering gates of Taruna High School before her. On her first day of school, she had already imagined meeting her first love during her high school years, just like in the thousands of novels and dramas she had read and watched. “Okay, Anna, you can do this,” she muttered, encouraging herself.
Jerryana breathed in the crisp morning air and looked at the new uniforms around her, just like hers. She glanced inside her bag. An old camera was tucked neatly inside. Her excitement about today had also grown because this high school offered something she wanted: a Photography Club, which was rare to find.
She had barely stepped inside when—BAM! Someone crashed into her from behind.
“Hey! Use your eyes when you walk!” Jerryana snapped irritably, turning to look at whoever had hit her.
Her eyes met a pair of sharp brown eyes staring straight at her. The guy, with messy hair and a uniform deliberately left untucked, snorted. “You’re the one blocking the way!”
Jerryana glared. “Huh? I was walking just fine! You’re the one who ran into me!”
“So you’re saying I was walking the wrong way? Ugh, you’re so freaking loud!” The guy rolled his eyes. “I’m Tommy, FYI. And you’re exactly the type of girl I hate most.”
“What? You don’t even know me!” Jerryana planted her hands on her hips, her face burning red. If they hadn’t been on school grounds, she would have punched the guy standing in front of her.
Tommy flashed an irritating smirk. “I don’t need to know you to know you’re an annoying girl.”
“Oh yeah? Well, guess what? You’re exactly the type of guy I hate most too!” Jerryana shot back viciously. She had no idea what wind had blown a guy like this right into her face.
The two of them traded sharp glares, unaware that a crowd of students was beginning to form around them. Whispers, jokes, and even gossip started spreading as everyone watched their argument. Speculation flew without either of them approving it. The two became the center of attention—and the hottest news of the day.
“Whatever, move!” Tommy gave Jerryana a gentle shove and swaggered past her like he was too cool for everyone else.
There was no denying that Tommy had the tall build of a model and a rugged complexion—not too fair, but not dark either. His brownish eyes, sharp whenever he looked at someone, were a major draw for the girls. They began whispering as they watched the school’s newest star.
Jerryana growled in frustration. “Oh my God! What is wrong with that guy? It’s the first day and he’s already ruined my mood!”
Without realizing it, Tommy glanced back, a small smile hidden on his face. Sorry, but there’s no way I’m going to be engaged to you. You’d be better off hating me from the start. This is for your own good too, he thought, continuing on with firm strides.
Tommy had been forced by his parents to attend Taruna High School because of Jerryana, his future fiancée. He had already seen Jerryana’s photo and recognized her at first sight. That was also why Tommy had acted so harshly toward Jerryana when they first met.
Jerryana rolled her eyes when she saw the tall figure blocking the classroom door. The strong scent of cologne assaulted her nose. The annoying face she had encountered at the school gates was now right in front of her.
“Move!” she snapped. “This is my classroom.”
Tommy snorted. “Like hell. You’re the one in the wrong classroom, Miss.”
“Huh? Impossible!” Jerryana put her hands on her hips. Though she was sure of herself, she glanced at her paper to make sure the classroom in front of her was the right one. “How could a delinquent like you be in the same class as me?” Jerryana hoped she was wrong—or that he was in the wrong classroom. She really didn’t want her beautiful high school years ruined.
“Oh, really?” Tommy smirked, pulling a sheet of paper from his pocket. “Look at this! Class 11-A. This is definitely my class.”
Jerryana’s eyes widened. “No way...” She looked at her own paper again, then snatched Tommy’s from his hand. Her eyes bulged when she saw the exact same 11-A printed on both papers.
“Happy now?” Tommy casually took his paper back. “Come on in, Miss Smarty-Pants. Or do you plan on standing here all day?”
Annoyed, Jerryana entered the classroom at the same time as Tommy. They went in elbowing each other. Both their gazes landed on the only empty seat in the corner by the window.
“That’s my seat!” they shouted at the same time.
“Like hell!” Jerryana glared. “I saw it first!”
Tommy clicked his tongue. “But I got there faster.”
“That’s cheating! Your legs are longer than mine, like a giraffe’s!”
Their heated argument continued. Suddenly, Jerryana fell silent, her eyes widening.
“Hey, Tommy! The teacher’s here!” she whispered in a panic.
“Where?” Tommy turned toward the door.
In a flash, Jerryana shot forward and dropped into the coveted seat.
“Hey!” Tommy shouted angrily. “You tricked me!”
Jerryana flashed a wide grin. “Who told you to be so easy to trick?”
Tommy grumbled and was forced to sit in the seat in front. He glanced at Jerryana, who was smiling victoriously.
