“It would only cause problems if we married under pressure. I want a marriage that doesn’t leave either party feeling wronged.”
I lowered my head, remembering my past life. Felix had never directly complained about our marriage. However, his cold actions had made it obvious that he hated it. On top of that, his final words at the time of our punishment proved that Felix truly despised our marriage. So there was no reason for me to marry Felix again.
“Do you object? You mean, me?”
I raised an eyebrow in confusion. Why was Felix asking something so obvious? Was he testing me?
“I thought you didn’t like it, considering the engagement was the result of my selfish request. But after reflecting on it for a long time, I finally realized that I had wronged you. I hope you marry someone of your own choosing.” My voice tightened slightly as I said he would marry another woman.
I truly still found it difficult to rid my heart of my feelings of love for him.
“There seems to be a misunderstanding. I never felt forced to accept the engagement. But it’s true that, at the time, I had no intention of looking for a partner. That’s why I neither rejected nor accepted the engagement plan,” Felix said.
I tilted my head in confusion. For some reason, his words made it sound as though he didn’t mind marrying me.
I quickly shook my head, dismissing the thought. I knew exactly what kind of man stood before me.
Perhaps Felix had said that so I wouldn’t be hurt.
After we finished talking, I immediately returned to the ballroom, leaving Felix staring blankly in that direction.
The next day, I received an invitation to a tea party from Lilian Winston, the daughter of Count Winston.
Lilian was one of the most influential people in noble society.
Besides her beauty, she was known for being intelligent and wise. That was why so many people followed her.
Perhaps by accepting this invitation, I could explain to the people there why I had called off my engagement.
I quickly wrote a reply stating that I would attend the tea party.
When I finished writing it, I handed it to Nora. Nora would then give it to the letter carrier to be delivered to the Winston residence immediately.
When the day of the tea party arrived, I chose a simple white dress adorned with flower-shaped ruffles along the edges.
“You’re absolutely beautiful, Princess. I feel like I’m looking at an angel in person,” Nora praised me, and I giggled.
“Thank you, Nora. It’s all thanks to your hard work styling me so beautifully,” I replied.
“That’s my duty, Princess,” Nora answered as she straightened the small ornament on her shoulder.
Once I was finished getting dressed, I walked outside. A carriage was already waiting to take me there.
Before I climbed inside, I saw a man in the uniform of a royal knight.
As soon as he saw me, he ran over and bowed respectfully.
“Greetings, Princess. I’m Hendrick, and I’ll escort you during your journey,” he said.
I glanced at Nora, who merely smiled at me. Nora had obviously asked one of the soldiers to guard me, even though I felt it was unnecessary.
However, since he was already here, I had no choice but to let him accompany me.
“Please look after me today, Sir Hendrick,” I said.
“Of course,” he replied.
Sir Hendrick and I then climbed into the carriage, and we set off for the Winston residence.
When we arrived, I fell silent for a moment. I hadn’t expected to immediately feel their mocking stares. Every now and then, I could also hear laughter in the distance.
I sighed. Coming to the tea party had clearly been the wrong choice.
