At midnight, Serena's stomach began to growl. She had only fallen asleep two hours earlier and now had to wake up because she was hungry. When Serena glanced at the clock on the nightstand, the hands pointed to two.
Whether she liked it or not, Serena had to go downstairs and fill her stomach first. She had reminded herself earlier to eat something before going to bed. But because her phone call with her father had stirred up her emotions over Nathaniel, Serena had eventually forgotten.
"That man must already be asleep, right?" Serena asked as she stared at Niel's closed bedroom door.
If only the door had been wide open, Serena might have gone inside. She would have scolded Niel for daring to complain to Liam about Serena being gone too long today.
"All right, you're safe from me tonight, Nathaniel Kierston," she said before hurrying downstairs.
Serena had eaten dinner with Varron sometime after seven. Afterward, they had gone for a walk around the mall to watch a movie. Serena's stomach shouldn't have been this hungry, but strangely, she felt ravenous.
The woman opened the refrigerator and took out a carton of cold milk and an apple. She saw several slices of bread on the table, but Serena chose to eat only the apple and drink the milk. She didn't want anything too heavy for her body.
Serena sat there in the dining room with both feet propped on a chair, eating the apple while weighed down by overwhelming sleepiness.
Meanwhile, Nathaniel never stopped watching Serena's activity at the dining table through his phone. Yes, that was right. The man had successfully installed a camera in the dining room so he could keep an eye on Serena.
Actually, Niel had really wanted to install a camera inside Serena's bedroom. But the man's thoughts weren't quite that twisted yet. He felt that would be crossing the line. He wanted Serena to still have her privacy. Her room was her hiding place. Even though, in reality, Niel could still eavesdrop on Serena's activities from behind the wall.
"My woman is so beautiful." Niel began praising Serena from behind his phone screen.
"I can't wait to have you, Serena ...."
"And I ... can't wait to get rid of anyone who dares come near you," he continued.
As Serena had expected, she woke up fairly late. Because of her hunger the night before, she had had a little trouble falling asleep. But honestly, whether she woke up late or not made no difference to Serena at all.
Since Liam and Mora weren't home, Serena had to make her own breakfast. Although she was an extremely spoiled girl, Serena was already quite skilled at making her own breakfast.
She walked down the stairs, yawning continuously, still wearing the pajamas she hadn't changed out of. Serena planned to be lazy today. Besides, Helena and Bella were busy working too. So Serena would just stay home.
"Oh, wow ...."
Serena looked surprised when she saw the breakfast waiting on the dining table. The man wasn't there, but Serena was certain Nathaniel had prepared a sandwich on a plate for breakfast that morning.
"I didn't expect that quiet man to be able to make breakfast. A man ...." Serena began to sit in the dining chair.
When she touched the sandwich, Serena realized there was no avocado inside it. Her father sometimes forgot to put it in, even though he clearly knew Serena didn't really like it.
Yet Nathaniel Kierston had just made Serena feel touched. Did that stranger know she didn't like avocado? Was it a coincidence, or had Liam really entrusted Serena to him?
"Do you like it?"
Nathaniel's voice greeted Serena's ears. She immediately turned and found Niel standing beside the refrigerator, his expression blank and his face strikingly handsome.
"Not really. I'm making do."
