Chapter 9: Chapter 9: A Dangerous Heartbeat

Jobless, freshly dumped and about to be evicted, Avery Thorne has hit rock bottom. So when she spots a luxury penthouse downtown for ridiculously low rent, she doesn't ask questions, even if the place feels a bit... off. The real problem is her landlord, Caspian Vane: absurdly handsome, rude and openly human-hating. He's secretly the ancient God of Destruction, enjoying a calm retirement among mortals. Avery's arrival wrecks that calm. An ancient curse links her emotions to his powers: when she's sad, it rains in the kitchen; when she's angry, the apartment quakes; and when she starts falling for Caspian, the whole city faces a mini-apocalypse. Caspian must decide whether to kick out this unlucky woman, or admit that after thousands of years his frozen heart is beating again for an ordinary human.
