“ABDI, WAKE UP!!!!”
Clang clang clang
A guard was pounding brutally on the door of the prison cell I occupied—a three-by-three-meter cell with a small mattress where I slept and a small toilet separated by a waist-high wall.
“HEY, DON’T JUST LIE THERE DAYDREAMING. WAKE UP!!”
The guard shouted again, and I immediately woke from my restless sleep. Still groggy, I watched as the guard opened the prison cell and stepped inside.
BAM!
Aaaagh!
The guard suddenly struck my leg hard with the baton he was carrying. I cried out in pain, clutching the leg he had hit with both hands.
Several more guards came and entered the prison cell. Still half-asleep, I was forcibly dragged out of the cell.
BAM!
AGH..
Another blow was delivered to my body, and I cried out in pain again. Then I collapsed helplessly onto the floor. The two guards who had come in dragged me by the legs, pulling my body along the floor. Helpless, all I could do was endure the pain. There was nothing I could do about the way the guards treated me.
My head and body were on the floor while the two guards forcibly dragged my legs.
I passed several other prison cells in that condition, but they were all the same. I saw guards savagely beating the other prisoners, while countless screams echoed through the prison—their cries of pain as the prison guards tortured them. It was as if being cruelly tortured and beaten was normal for us. Those of us in the prison couldn't fight back against the guards. If we resisted even a little, we'd be transferred to a dark isolation room, where we'd be denied even the slightest bit of food or water for several days.
Screeech screeech
The two guards dragging me then turned and entered a room. It was dark, with a single lamp shining in the center. Beneath the lamp stood a restraint chair.
They lifted my body and seated me in the chair. My hands and feet were bound tightly, but I deliberately lifted my hands so they wouldn't press against the chair, loosening the bindings the guards had put on me.
Then all the guards who had brought me slowly filed out. They left the room one by one, abandoning me there alone.
“Where am I?” I thought.
The pain I had received still throbbed intensely. I tried to look around the room. It was dark, illuminated only by a hanging lamp above my head. I also saw the floor beneath its light, covered in bloodstains that had dried under the glowing lamp.
I tried twisting my body back and forth. I moved the hands I had deliberately kept from pressing against the chair, trying to slip free of the ropes binding me.
But then, suddenly—
Arrrrrghhhhhhhhhh
BAM..!
A scream rang out from outside. This time, it was loud, accompanied by the sound of something crashing into something else.
Tap tap tap
More sounds rang out. People were running back and forth in a panic. Their footsteps and screams grew louder, reaching the room where I was.
“HELP, HELLLP!!!”
CRASH!
Something slammed into the door. The impact was so powerful that it forced open the door to the room where I was.
