Rain poured heavily that night.
Thunder boomed again and again, making the windows of Harapan Bangsa Hospital rattle. In the maternity ward hallway, a man paced back and forth, his face anxious.
His name was Adrian Wijaya, a young CEO and the owner of one of the largest companies in the city.
For the first time in his life, the man who always appeared calm when dealing with meetings and company problems looked genuinely nervous.
"Doctor, how's my wife?"
"Stay calm, Mr. Adrian. Both mother and baby are safe."
Adrian let out a relieved breath.
"It's a baby girl, sir."
A girl.
The child he'd been waiting for all this time.
Adrian had even prepared a nursery filled with the very best of everything. Expensive clothes, a custom crib, stuffed animals, and even a name he and his wife had chosen together.
Aurel Wijaya.
The Wijaya family's first daughter.
When Adrian was finally allowed inside, he saw his wife, Clara, cradling the tiny newborn.
Clara smiled weakly.
"Adrian..."
"Yeah?"
"Look at our child."
Adrian stepped closer.
For the first time, tears welled in his eyes as he looked at the tiny face.
"She's beautiful."
Clara chuckled softly.
"Her name is Aurel."
Adrian nodded.
"Aurel Wijaya."
He kissed his wife's forehead, then touched his little daughter's hand.
"Dad promises to protect you."
But that night, a small mistake occurred.
A mistake that would change the lives of two families forever.
On the same floor, a village woman named Mira had also just given birth to a baby girl.
Mira had come to the city with her husband, Joko, because the hospital in their village didn't have adequate facilities.
Unlike the Wijaya family, their life was very simple.
Joko was only an odd-job laborer.
They lived in a village far from the city center.
The newborn baby girl was their first child.
"Joko..."
"Yeah, Mir?"
"Look at our child."
Joko smiled broadly.
"Our baby is beautiful."
Mira nodded through tears of happiness.
"Let's name her Alya."
Joko stroked his wife's head.
"Alya."
The name sounded simple.
But fate had a far more complicated plan.
The night grew late.
The rain caused the power to go out at the hospital several times. The nurses busily moved babies from one room to another.
In the rush, the identification bracelets on two baby girls in the nursery were switched.
No one noticed.
The baby who was supposed to be Aurel Wijaya was taken to Mira's room.
Meanwhile, the baby who was supposed to be Alya was taken to the Wijaya family's room.
One mistake. Two lives.
And a secret that wouldn't be exposed until eighteen years later.
Eighteen years later.
"Aurel! Wake up! You're going to be late for college!"
A girl opened her eyes reluctantly.
"What time is it?"
"It's already seven!"
Aurel sat up immediately.
"What?!"
She ran to the bathroom.
Her life was perfect.
She'd grown up as the only daughter of a famous CEO. All her needs were taken care of. A car was always available. She'd been given a credit card without being asked many questions.
But Aurel had never felt truly close to her father.
Adrian was too busy.
Clara traveled too often.
Even so, Aurel had always thought that was simply what her life was like.
That day, she went to college in a luxury car.
Elsewhere, hundreds of kilometers from the city...
A girl was hanging clothes out to dry in the yard of a simple home.
"Alya! Breakfast is ready!"
"Coming, Mom!"
Alya ran outside.
Her college uniform was already a little faded. The bag she used was an old one her cousin had given her.
Before leaving, she helped her mother cook.
"Don't come home too late."
"Okay, Mom."
"If you don't have enough money for transportation, tell me."
Alya smiled.
"I still have enough, Mom."
In reality, her wallet held only a few bills.
Alya never complained.
She knew her parents had been working hard.
She had only one dream.
To graduate from college and change her family's circumstances.
That day, fate brought together two girls who should never have met.
Aurel got out of the car in front of the college.
As she hurried along, someone suddenly bumped into her.
Crash!
Aurel's books fell to the ground.
"I'm sorry!"
Aurel looked at the girl in front of her.
The girl was wearing simple clothes and carrying an old bag.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to."
Aurel was about to get angry.
But when she saw the girl's face, she suddenly fell silent.
There was something strange.
Their faces...
They looked incredibly alike.
Alya also stared at Aurel in confusion.
"Have we met before?"
Aurel slowly shook her head.
"I don't think so."
They both reached for the fallen books.
But when their hands touched, a small object fell from Alya's neck.
A flower-shaped pendant.
Aurel froze.
She recognized that pendant.
Because she had an identical one.
Even the tiny engraving on the back was the same.
Aurel touched her own pendant.
"This..."
Alya looked at her.
"What?"
Aurel looked at Alya's face once more.
Her heart suddenly began pounding.
"What's your parents' names?"
Alya frowned.
"Why are you asking that?"
"I was just curious."
Alya gave her a small smile.
"My name is Alya. My father's Joko, and my mother's Mira."
Aurel fell silent.
For some reason, those names felt both unfamiliar and familiar.
Meanwhile, inside the car still parked not far away, Adrian had just received a call from the hospital.
"Mr. Adrian, we've found something in the hospital's old records."
Adrian furrowed his brow.
"What records?"
"The birth records of your daughter from eighteen years ago."
Adrian's expression changed.
"What's wrong with those records?"
The voice on the other end of the phone sounded hesitant.
"Sir... we've found a possibility that the baby your family took home that night..."
The man paused for a moment.
"...might not be your biological daughter."
Adrian's world seemed to stop.
His eyes immediately fixed on Aurel, who was standing in front of the college.
Then they shifted to the village girl standing right beside her.
For the first time in eighteen years, Adrian felt afraid.
Very afraid.
Because it was possible...
that the girl he'd believed was his daughter all this time wasn't Aurel.
