The night grew later and later.
Yet not one of them intended to leave the hospital.
The examination room that had been filled with tension a few hours earlier had now become a place of utter confusion.
Aurel sat beside Elena, her eyes swollen from crying.
Alya was at Mira's side.
Meanwhile, Adrian and Joko stood in front of the doctor, waiting for further explanations.
“Doctor,” Adrian's voice was firm, though his anxiety was obvious. “Are you saying there was a third baby born that same night?”
The doctor nodded.
“That’s right.”
“And that baby was never recorded as having gone home?”
“In the old archives, there’s no record showing who took the baby home.”
Joko frowned.
“How could a hospital lose a baby’s records?”
The doctor sighed.
“Eighteen years ago, our record-keeping system wasn’t what it is today. Most of the documents were still kept in paper files.”
“So the records could have been lost?”
“They could have. But there’s something even stranger.”
The doctor opened the old folder he had brought with him.
“The third baby was recorded as a baby girl with no parents’ names.”
Adrian immediately looked at him.
“No parents’ names?”
“Yes.”
“How is that possible?”
The doctor shook his head.
“That’s what we’re trying to understand.”
Aurel, who had been silent until then, suddenly asked, “Doctor... could that baby still be alive?”
Every eye turned to her.
The doctor fell silent for a moment.
“Technically, of course.”
Aurel swallowed.
“Then... there might be someone out there who’s actually Dad and Mom’s biological child?”
That question made Elena lower her head.
Adrian looked at his daughter.
“Don’t let your thoughts run too far.”
“But it’s possible, isn’t it?”
Adrian couldn’t answer.
Because for the first time, that possibility felt real.
He might truly have another biological child.
And for eighteen years, they had lived without knowing she existed.
Suddenly, the room’s door opened.
An archive clerk entered carrying several old files.
“Doctor, we found something.”
The doctor immediately took the files.
“What?”
“The maternity ward records from that night.”
He opened them quickly.
Everyone moved closer.
On one of the pages were three birth records.
First baby.
Female.
Temporary name: Aurel.
Second baby.
Female.
Temporary name: Alya.
And the third baby.
Female.
Name: unknown.
Adrian read the record over and over.
“This is it.”
Joko pointed to the bottom of the page.
“Wait.”
There was a small note beside the third baby’s record.
The doctor examined it.
“It’s handwritten.”
“What does it say?” Mira asked.
The doctor held the document closer to the lamp.
“‘Transferred to the special care room.’”
Adrian frowned.
“Why?”
“There’s no reason listed.”
Joko immediately asked, “Who transferred her?”
The doctor turned the page.
“It’s not recorded.”
Silence fell over the room again.
Then the doctor found something.
At the very bottom of the document was a nurse’s signature.
Everyone moved closer at once.
The name made Mira freeze.
“Sari.”
Adrian looked at her.
“The nurse you mentioned earlier?”
Mira nodded slowly.
“Yes.”
Joko clenched his fists.
“So she was the last person to handle the third baby?”
“It appears so.”
Adrian immediately pulled out his phone.
“Find a woman named Sari who worked at this hospital eighteen years ago.”
The archive clerk nodded.
“We’ll try.”
A few minutes later, an administrative employee returned.
“Mr. Wijaya, we found her records.”
Adrian turned around.
“Where is she now?”
The employee looked hesitant.
“She doesn’t work here anymore.”
“Now?”
“According to the latest records, she resigned three months after the incident.”
“What was the reason?”
The employee shook his head.
“There’s no information.”
Adrian stared sharply at the document.
“Three months?”
“Yes.”
“And after that?”
“There’s no updated address.”
Joko slammed his fist on the table.
“This is too much of a coincidence.”
The doctor didn’t disagree.
Eighteen years.
Two families.
Two children who turned out not to be their blood relatives.
And one baby who had vanished without a trace.
Everything pointed to one name.
Sari.
But before they could consider their next move, Adrian’s phone rang.
An unknown number.
Adrian answered it.
“Hello?”
There was no answer.
“Hello?”
For several seconds, all he could hear was breathing.
Then an old woman’s voice came from the other end.
“Don’t look for the third baby.”
Adrian immediately stood up.
“Who are you?”
“If you keep searching, you’ll find something that should have stayed buried.”
“Who are you?”
The call ended.
Adrian stared at his phone screen.
“Who was it?” Elena asked.
Adrian hadn’t had time to answer.
His phone rang again.
A message had come in.
There was only one photo.
A photo of a baby girl.
Adrian opened it.
His expression immediately changed.
Because beside the baby was a hospital bracelet.
The writing on it was clear.
Baby girl — Wijaya.
Adrian’s hands began to tremble.
“No way...”
Elena took the phone from his hand.
The moment she saw the photo, all the color drained from her face.
Aurel stood up.
“Mom?”
Elena didn’t answer.
Tears simply began to fall.
Across from her, Mira looked at the photo.
Then her eyes fell on something lying on the table.
An old baby bracelet that had been kept in a memory box all this time.
Mira opened the box with trembling hands.
The writing on the bracelet had almost faded away.
But it was still readable.
Alya — Wijaya.
Mira stared at the bracelet.
Then she looked at the baby in Adrian’s phone photo.
It felt as though the blood had stopped flowing through her veins.
“Then...” she whispered.
Adrian looked at her.
“What?”
Mira raised the bracelet.
“The missing baby might not have been the third baby.”
Everyone fell silent.
Mira looked at Alya.
“It could be that...”
Tears fell from her eyes.
“...one of them is actually the Wijaya family’s baby.”
Aurel looked at Alya.
Alya looked at Aurel.
For the first time, they looked at each other with the same question in their eyes.
If Aurel wasn’t Adrian’s biological daughter...
and Alya wasn’t Joko and Mira’s biological daughter either...
then who were they really?
Elsewhere, the old woman who had been standing outside the hospital earlier entered a small house.
She closed the door.
Then she pulled an old wooden box out from beneath the bed.
Inside were three baby bracelets.
Two had names written on them.
The third was blank.
The woman picked up the blank bracelet.
Her eyes grew misty.
“Forgive me.”
She gripped the bracelet tightly.
“Eighteen years ago, I made a mistake.”
The woman opened an old photograph.
In it, a young nurse named Sari could be seen holding a baby.
But behind Sari stood a man whose face was deliberately hidden in shadow.
The old woman stared at him.
“And now...”
She smiled bitterly.
“...he must already know that his secret is beginning to come to light.”
Meanwhile, at the hospital, Adrian was still staring at the baby photo he had just received.
He zoomed in on the image.
There was a date in the corner of the photo.
Aurel’s birth date.
Adrian froze.
Because directly beneath the date was a small handwritten note.
“This baby must be found before her nineteenth birthday.”
Adrian looked at the calendar on the wall.
His face went pale.
Aurel’s birthday was only three days away.
