“What kind of idiot girl would fall for Mr. Frans?” Caramel argued.
“Yeah, liking Frans physically isn’t stupid, but when a girl like Caramel Louisa falls for someone else’s husband whose only job is being a barista … that’s not just stupid anymore. That’s downright moronic!” Intan immediately poked Caramel in the forehead with her index finger.
“Ugh … what is wrong with you?” Caramel grumbled, but Intan didn’t respond because her eyes were fixed once again on the handsome, familiar man. The older guy in the blue suit stepped out of the coffee shop carrying four cups of coffee.
Intan immediately stood up and grabbed Caramel’s hand. “Come on!”
“Ow! What are you doing?”
“Come on, hurry!”
“Wait … I haven’t even kissed Mr. Frans’s hand yet!” Caramel tried to pull free from Intan’s grip as her friend dragged her along, but she was no match for Intan’s strength.
“What’s wrong with you? Are you his wife or something? Come on, move!” Intan yanked Caramel’s hand again. The girl had no choice but to follow.
Once they were outside the coffee shop, Intan stopped for a moment.
“What are you actually trying to do? Stop the president’s motorcade? I was still drinking, and now you’re—”
Before Caramel could finish complaining, Intan suddenly shoved her forward.
“Ow!!”
At the same time, a luxurious black car sped past and clipped Caramel. The girl fell, and the car stopped abruptly. The handsome man Intan had been watching stepped out.
“Oh my God! Are you okay?” the man asked as he approached Caramel, who was sitting on the ground in the pose of a dugong performing a trick.
“No father-father,” Caramel answered.
“Huh?” The man was confused by her answer.
“How can you say she’s okay, sir? Look at my friend—she’s hurt like this and can’t even stand!” Intan cut in, deliberately putting on an annoyed expression.
“Fine, I’ll take her to the doctor.” The man tried to help Caramel, who was still confused about what was happening.
Caramel seemed to refuse, even though she could feel that she had sprained her ankle. “No, I …”
“Yes, sir. Just take my friend to the doctor. She needs treatment as soon as possible. Who knows? Maybe all the bones inside her got switched around with cow marrow.”
“Ugh … you might as well say they got switched with a rhinoceros horn!” Caramel snapped. Intan immediately helped her friend to her feet and into the car, despite the argument they carried on through side-eyes and mouthed words.
The man opened the rear car door, and Intan helped Caramel inside.
Intan immediately said, “Sir, you can take my friend, right? I have to get back to campus. I still have class.”
“Wait, you’re just going to leave me like this?” Caramel protested.
The man merely nodded, then got into the car and sat beside Caramel. The door closed, and through the window, Intan could be seen waving with a huge smile on her face.
Caramel let out a soft sigh.
“Where to, Mr. Carlo?” asked a middle-aged man sitting behind the wheel.
“The usual hospital,” the older guy replied flatly.
Caramel turned and looked at the man named Carlo. Up close, his face was incredibly handsome, with a strong jaw, piercing eyes, a high-bridged nose, and thick eyebrows. His thin but full lips were pressed together. His gaze remained fixed sharply ahead.
‘Oh my God … this guy is ridiculously handsome!’ Caramel shrieked inwardly.
The girl examined every detail of Carlo’s appearance. Earlier, at the café, she had noticed him because his scent wafted over to her, but she hadn’t really paid attention.
Caramel unconsciously smiled to herself. Carlo finally glanced at her.
“What?”
Caramel quickly shook her head. “Nothing, older guy.”
“Don’t call me that.”
“Then what should I call you? Mr.?” Caramel asked with a flirtatious blink worthy of a mischievous goblin.
“Carlo.”
“How about babe?”
“Carlo.” The man answered in the same flat tone.
“Sweetheart? Okay!”
Carlo’s eyebrows shot up.
Caramel grinned.
