Chapter 21: The Janus Record

One cannot possibly entrust one’s life to a machine that cannot understand human emotions. In near-future Japan, advanced artificial intelligence has been introduced into criminal investigations. But special investigator Ren Kujo hates androids. “A partner should be human.” For Ren, who survived the large-scale terrorist attack three years ago despite suffering life-threatening injuries, criminal investigation means detecting the “incongruity” hidden in people’s expressions and actions, not relying on data. His newly assigned partner is Iris, a state-of-the-art simulation-specialized android.
