Chapter 10: A New Car and Goodbye to the Past
That afternoon, Joko stood in front of a Toyota dealership with a smile he could barely hide.
Today was supposed to be simple.
He just wanted to buy a car.
Ever since he received a reward from the system for his fried chicken shop's revenue surpassing eight million rupiah, Joko's life had slowly begun to change. The system's rewards made no sense, but Joko had stopped questioning them.
What mattered was that the rewards were real.
And today, he wanted to use some of his good fortune to buy a vehicle.
Joko had already made up his mind.
A Fortuner.
The SUV had long been one of the cars he wanted to own. It wasn't overly extravagant, but it still looked rugged and was perfect for running a business.
Relaxed, Joko walked into the dealership.
However, after only a few steps, his eyes caught sight of two people he knew very well.
Nur.
His ex-girlfriend.
And the man standing beside her.
Tapir.
The man's real name was Deddy. They had known each other since childhood. Back then, Joko had never imagined that his childhood friend would become the man who stole his girlfriend.
Nur was looking over a car while holding hands with Deddy.
Then Nur's eyes met Joko's.
Her expression immediately changed.
"Joko?"
Joko stopped.
He really didn't want to deal with them.
But before he could turn around, Deddy was already laughing.
"Seriously? You came here?"
Joko raised an eyebrow.
"Why wouldn't I?"
Deddy looked Joko up and down.
"Oh, I'm just surprised. An office assistant can walk into a Toyota dealership?"
Nur covered her mouth, holding back a laugh.
"Don't be like that, Ded."
Her tone only made her sound even more condescending.
"Maybe he just wants to look around."
Joko took a long breath.
He had come to buy a Fortuner.
But now?
Forget it.
His eyes began sweeping across the vehicles displayed inside the showroom.
Finally, his gaze stopped on an SUV that was much larger and far more luxurious than a Fortuner.
Joko pointed at it.
"What about that one?"
The sales representative standing nearby immediately approached.
"That's one of the most expensive SUVs we carry, sir."
"How much?"
The sales representative named the price.
Joko fell silent for a few seconds.
Then he nodded.
"I'll take it."
Nur immediately burst out laughing.
"Huh?"
Deddy even threw his head back and roared with laughter.
"Joko, are you serious?"
Joko turned to him.
"Why?"
"That car costs more than a used motorcycle, Jo."
Deddy slapped Nur on the shoulder as he laughed.
"Maybe he doesn't know how much it costs."
Joko only smiled.
The system inside his head seemed to respond as well.
[DING!]
[Host's fried chicken shop revenue has surpassed Rp8,000,000.]
[Door Prize successfully obtained.]
[Reward balance received.]
Joko held back a smile.
He pulled a card from his wallet.
"I'll pay now."
The sales representative froze.
"Sir?"
"I want this one."
Joko handed over his payment card.
The sales representative's expression immediately turned serious. After processing the payment for a while, he finally nodded.
"Payment successful, sir."
The showroom instantly fell silent.
Nur, who had been laughing moments ago, was no longer making a sound.
Deddy stared at Joko in disbelief.
"Impossible..."
Joko took the car keys handed to him.
He gave a small smile.
"Apparently not."
Nur looked at the car, then at Joko.
"You... really bought it?"
Joko nodded casually.
"Yeah."
He walked toward his new car.
Before getting in, Joko turned back to them one last time.
"I was going to buy a Fortuner."
Nur fell silent.
"But after seeing you two..."
Joko smiled.
"I guess I should thank you."
Deddy furrowed his brow.
"Thank us?"
"For making me change my mind."
The car door closed.
The SUV's engine roared to life.
A few seconds later, Joko drove away from the dealership.
Nur and Deddy could only stand there.
They had come to the dealership intending to show off their success.
But in the end, they were the ones left staring blankly at Joko's departure.
Meanwhile, inside the car, Joko wore a broad smile.
"Goodbye, past."
Today, Joko hadn't merely bought a car.
He had just bought the beginning of his new life.
