Long before this land came to be called Japan. On this island, where more than a hundred small states crowded together, inhabited by indigenous peoples whose roots stretched back to antiquity, as well as peoples who had crossed over from the continent and the southern seas, each speaking different languages, the early Asuka period saw these many small states gradually united under the idea of the Heavenly Descendants. The story about to unfold takes place in that era. Set against the few blank years of Toyomimi (Prince Shōtoku)’s childhood, unrecorded even in legend, it follows a journey with princesses descended from ancient technical peoples who crossed to this island, including Sugaru.
