Nineteen-year-old Kael is an apprentice mapmaker in the mountain village of Valdoren, haunted by dreams of a silver tree and by the father who vanished ten years ago. In Liria Forest a glowing mark awakens on his arm, a corrupted beast attacks, and Lyra, a captain of the Emerald Guard, names him the Last Aether Bearer. As the golden-eyed Eryon and his dragon army come for him, Kael is pulled into a war that reaches far beyond his kingdom and deep into the secrets of his own family.
