"Could it be..." Rama didn't finish his sentence.
The doctor furrowed his brow. "Could it be what, Mr. Rama?"
Rama slowly shook his head. "Nothing. I was just thinking... maybe there was something wrong with that accident."
The doctor stared at him for a few moments before finally nodding.
"To determine the cause, the police will conduct the investigation. We're only handling the patient's medical condition."
"All right, Doctor."
Rama nodded, then left the room. But instead of heading straight to Raya's room, he stopped in the hallway. His gaze was blank.
Rama himself was confused about why he was thinking so much about a woman he'd only just met. He didn't know much about Raya yet. He'd only learned her full name after seeing her patient records.
Rama was still standing in the hallway when hurried footsteps came from the direction of the ICU.
A nurse stepped out. "Mr. Rama."
Rama immediately turned around. "How is Raya?"
"The patient is beginning to respond."
Rama fell silent for a moment. "Respond?"
"Her fingers moved, and her blood pressure is starting to stabilize. The doctor is checking her consciousness."
Without waiting any longer, Rama followed the nurse toward the ICU. But after he'd taken only a few steps inside, the doctor came out of the room.
"Mr. Rama, the patient is conscious," the doctor said.
Rama let out a relieved breath. "May I see her?"
"Only for a moment. Don't make the patient think too much."
Rama nodded.
The ICU door slowly opened. Rama immediately stepped inside, moving carefully. Raya lay on the bed. Her face was still pale. An IV line was attached to her hand, while bandages covered part of her head.
The woman's eyelids moved slowly. Then they opened.
Raya stared at the ceiling. She blinked several times, looking confused.
"Where..." Her voice was so faint it was almost inaudible.
The doctor immediately moved closer. "You're in a hospital."
Raya moved her head slightly. "A hospital?"
"Yes."
Raya's gaze swept around the room. Not a single face there was familiar to her.
The doctor then pointed to Rama, who was standing a few steps from the bed.
"Do you know this man?"
Raya stared at Rama for a long time. Their eyes met. But nothing changed in Raya's expression. Rama, on the other hand, felt strange when he saw that empty gaze. It was as if he were truly a complete stranger to her.
Raya slowly shook her head. "No," she finally answered.
Rama fell silent.
The doctor asked again. "Do you know your name?"
Raya opened her mouth, but no sound came out. She tried to remember. A house. A woman. Someone's voice calling her name. Then... darkness.
Raya squeezed her eyes shut. Her head throbbed. "I..." Her hand clenched the blanket. "Who am I?"
The question made Rama's eyes widen. He and the doctor stared at each other for several seconds. Shortly afterward...
"You... really don't remember your own name?" Rama repeated to make sure.
Raya only shook her head at his words. She looked dazed and confused, with no idea what had happened to her or to anyone connected to her.
"Then... what's my name?" Raya asked again, her face innocent. "What is our relationship? And what is my family like?"
Rama didn't answer right away. Instead, he now felt confused.
"What am I supposed to do?" Rama thought.
