"Evan?"
All the strength in Nara's body vanished in an instant, causing the slip of paper in her hand to fall. A crushing pain and anguish surged through her as a man who was no longer a stranger to her appeared before her eyes.
He was the very man whose whereabouts she had been anxiously waiting to hear about all this time. He was standing there with one arm wrapped intimately around a woman's waist, not even hesitating to kiss her forehead in front of the invited guests and the press.
"No! This can't be happening! Why is Evan with that woman?" she murmured through her tears.
Nara tried to steady her labored breathing as she pushed her way through several people standing around with their phones in hand. The people around her began staring at her strangely, but she didn't care. Her heart was already in complete turmoil because of this shocking revelation.
"Evan!" Nara shouted, bringing the ceremony to a halt.
The simply dressed woman continued stepping forward until every eye turned toward her. The atmosphere, which had been happy and solemn just moments earlier, suddenly became tense because of the unexpected interruption.
"You're getting married again, Evan?" Nara's eyes met Evan's directly. He looked utterly shocked when he realized she was there.
"Damn it! Why is that country bumpkin here?" Evan muttered, his jaw tightening.
Evan's eyes widened, and he instinctively stepped toward the woman whose arrival he had never wanted. One of his hands clenched into a fist, as if he were preparing to strike someone who had ruined his plans.
"Ow! Let go, Evan!" Nara struggled against him, but unfortunately, she was much weaker. Her body was hurled against a large pillar beside her, shocking everyone who witnessed it.
Those dark eyes showed no concern for her at all. Evan hated that his plans had been ruined. Without giving her a moment's reprieve, he tightened his grip around Nara's wrist until it turned red. Evan seemed utterly heartless, even though the woman standing before him had once been his wife.
"What are you doing here? How did you find out about this place?" Evan asked in the lowest voice possible so that no one nearby except Nara could hear their conversation. He failed to notice that nearly every camera was now pointed at him.
"I should be the one asking you that, Evan!" Nara snapped, her voice trembling violently.
"Why are you here? Do you really want to marry that woman? Is this why you divorced me? Answer me, Evan! Please explain everything to me! What did I do wrong?!" she shouted again, her heart completely shattered.
Evan merely snorted. He looked away for a moment, then turned his eyes back to the woman in front of him, a sneer spreading across his face.
"Here, look! See this ring on my finger!" Evan said, holding up the new ring around his ring finger directly in front of Nara's face.
"I really am married to Bella! She's a beautiful up-and-coming actress, obviously worlds apart from you!" he continued without the slightest hint of remorse.
"Besides, what does it matter to you? Have you forgotten that we're already divorced? Remember! You're not my wife anymore, so you have absolutely no right to stop me!"
A hard slap landed squarely across Evan's face.
Nara's eyes blazed with emotion and disappointment, her breathing growing heavier.
"You really are cruel, Evan!" Nara said, her tear-filled eyes burning fiercely. "How could you throw me away after pawning the only house I had—the sole inheritance left to me by my late father?!"
Evan glared at her in disbelief, then immediately grabbed a fistful of the black hair in front of him. He yanked Nara's hair without mercy, until he finally noticed all the eyes fixed on him.
"Damn it! You've really humiliated me, Nara!" he snarled, growing even more furious.
A second later, Nara felt her body thrown forward. Her ex-husband shoved her until she fell, and several security officers immediately arrived and roughly dragged her away.
"She's a country bumpkin pretending to be my wife! So take her away from here! I won't let her ruin my wedding!" Evan said, drawing even more attention from the people around him.
One by one, the cameras turned toward Nara. The glare of their flashes made the country girl bow her head even lower as she struggled to endure the humiliation. Nara wanted to scream and unleash all her anger at Evan. But her body was already reeling backward, nearly falling as the two large men restrained her movements.
"Let go! He's a liar! He's the one who lied to me!" Nara protested.
Unfortunately, with a single tug, they managed to drag Nara away. The woman was hauled off in a completely inhumane manner, until moments later, they simply threw her onto the side of the road.
"Get out of here! Don't ever interrupt our boss's wedding again! Or we'll report you to the staff at the mental hospital!" the security officer ordered before walking away and leaving Nara behind without a trace of pity.
With unsteady steps, Nara walked away from the wedding venue that had left her heart aching. In all her life, she had never imagined being humiliated and treated this way by the man she had once loved so deeply.
"What did I do wrong, God? Why does my life have to be like this?"
Nara's steps stopped on a long, fairly busy road. Eventually, she continued walking, attempting to cross with a vacant stare. She had no clear destination. Every part of the road around her looked completely unfamiliar.
"Why are you so cruel to me, Evan? You're truly heartless! Do I have to follow Dad into the afterlife so I can be happy like I used to be?" Nara murmured again, her vision beginning to blur as her body grew weaker and weaker.
Suddenly, Nara collapsed in the middle of the road, unnoticed by the people around her. For now, Nara had completely surrendered. She no longer had any desire to live. Her vision darkened until there was nothing left for her to see.
"Dad, come get me in heaven, okay?"
