That morning, I made a promise to myself.
No drama. No bad luck. And most importantly—no girls crashing into me. At least, not for one day.
I walked toward campus at an easy pace. After what happened yesterday, I felt like my life had been humiliated enough to last me the next few days. My bag was on my back, my earbuds were in, and my eyes were focused on the road.
Today had to be normal.
I repeated that sentence over and over in my head.
And eventually, I arrived in front of the faculty building.
Safe. No one had crashed into me. No one had called out to me. No food had spilled.
I smiled faintly.
"Looks like my luck is finally coming back."
I had taken exactly three steps when—
THUD!
Something fell right in front of me.
I stopped.
A stack of books lay scattered across the floor.
Then I heard a girl's voice.
"Oh my God!"
I looked up.
And in an instant, my smile vanished.
Her.
The girl who had crashed into me yesterday. The girl who had given me food. The girl who, for some reason, always showed up whenever I wanted a little peace and quiet.
She stared at me with an annoyed expression.
"You again?"
I pointed at myself.
"Me?"
"Yes, you."
"Why me?"
"You're standing in my way."
I glanced around.
The hallway was wide. Very wide.
"Weren't you the one who dropped the books?"
She fell silent.
Her eyes dropped to the books scattered across the floor.
Then she looked back at me.
"Whatever. Help me."
I sighed.
"Sure."
We crouched down at the same time to pick up the books.
My hand reached for a blue-covered book. Her hand moved toward the same book.
Our fingers touched.
We both froze.
She pulled her hand away immediately.
"You take it."
I raised an eyebrow.
"Why?"
"I'm afraid you'll say I crashed into you again."
I held back a smile.
"Do you crash into people often?"
"No."
"Then I must be special."
She gave me a flat look.
"Don't flatter yourself."
I chuckled.
For some reason, it was the first time I felt like all these unlucky incidents weren't that annoying after all.
Once we had gathered all the books, she stood up.
"Thanks."
"No problem."
She walked away.
I put my earbuds back in.
After only two steps—
"Hey!"
I turned around.
She was standing a few yards behind me.
"What?"
"Your wallet."
I patted my pants pocket.
Empty.
I immediately panicked.
"Oh my God!"
I ran over to her.
She held up my wallet with a small smile.
"It fell out when you picked up the books."
I took the wallet from her.
"Thanks."
"No problem."
She turned away again.
I watched her leave.
Then, without realizing it, I smiled.
Maybe today wasn't as bad as I'd thought.
I headed to class.
But just as I reached the door, I heard the professor's voice from inside.
"You're late."
I looked at the clock.
Two minutes.
Only two minutes.
"Sorry, Professor."
The professor looked at me for a moment.
"Come in."
I sighed in relief.
At least he wasn't angry.
I chose the seat in the very back and sat down.
I had barely opened my laptop when someone sat down beside me.
I turned around.
And nearly dropped my laptop.
It was that girl again.
She looked at me casually.
"You're in this class too?"
I nodded slowly.
"Yeah."
She smiled.
"Then I guess we're classmates."
I looked at the whiteboard.
Then I looked at her again.
In my heart, I could only say one thing.
Today might not be the last day of my bad luck.
Maybe it was actually the beginning of everything.
And for some reason, for the first time...
I wasn't sure I wanted my bad luck to stop.
