Chieftain Seolhwa of the Wolf Clan hides a secret. Behind the face of a cold, commanding queen, her heart beats tenderly for broken things. On the night four Fox Clan men came as concubine candidates, Seolhwa judged them coldly. The charming one. The rebellious one. The obedient one. None stirred her. Until the last man lifted his head. Drooping ears. A shaking voice. An old scar etched into the back of his neck. The instant she saw him, the Chieftain's heart howled like a beast. Whichever concubine is chosen as First Consort will have his clan's land restored. This is no marriage. It is the last move in a war. So why does her hand reach for the weakest of them all? "When the Chieftain's heart wavers, it becomes a weakness." She knows. She knows, and she cannot stop herself.
