Some days seem exactly the same as all the others.
The bell announces the end of classes, and the school doors fly open. Dozens of students stream out, talking among themselves, laughing, shoving one another, and making plans for the next day.
—So, are you coming tomorrow?
—Only if I pass the math test.
—Ha. Then you’re not coming.
The laughter is swallowed by the crowd.
In the middle of all that noise, a boy walks alone.
His backpack hangs from one shoulder, and he keeps his eyes fixed on the ground.
He doesn’t look sad.
Not happy, either.
Just... empty.
"How boring..."
He looks up at the sky.
"Another day just like the rest."
Without realizing it, he reaches the crosswalk.
The crosswalk signal turns green.
He takes one step.
Then another.
A horn blares, shattering the silence.
He raises his head.
An enormous truck fills his entire field of vision.
"Huh...?"
There’s no time to think.
No time to run.
Just one instant.
And then...
Nothing.
Silence.
No pain.
No darkness.
Just absolute silence.
When he regains consciousness, he can no longer feel the weight of his body.
Because he no longer has one.
He is a small white orb floating through an immense Tunnel of light.
He has no eyes.
No mouth.
No hands.
And yet he can see.
And yet he can think.
He slowly spins in place.
There is no up.
There is no down.
Only an endless path surrounded by absolute white.
Far away, other small orbs drift along.
They are all moving in the same direction.
None of them stops.
"So..."
He remains motionless for a few seconds.
"Am I dead?"
No one answers.
There is only silence.
The other orbs continue onward as if they don’t even know he exists.
"Huh..."
"What a stupid way to die."
The thought hangs there for a few moments.
"I didn’t even do anything interesting with my life..."
He continues letting himself be carried along by the Tunnel’s invisible current.
Then something shatters that peace.
Far away.
A small red point.
"What is that?"
The point slowly grows.
More and more.
Faster and faster.
In a completely different place...
A young demon runs desperately through a dark forest.
He breathes with difficulty.
His body is covered in wounds.
Several footsteps echo behind him.
He doesn’t dare look back.
—Wait!
No one answers.
—It wasn’t my fault!
The figures continue drawing closer.
The demon runs as fast as he can.
He trips.
Falls to the ground.
He tries to get up.
His legs barely respond.
He looks up.
Several silhouettes already surround him.
For the first time, he understands that there is no escape.
He grits his teeth.
Closes his eyes.
Everything turns red.
Silence.
A small red orb slowly emerges from the place where a body once was.
It begins traveling through the same white Tunnel.
From the opposite end, the white orb moves forward.
Both follow opposing paths.
The white orb watches as the red point draws closer and closer.
"What...?"
The red orb senses a presence, too.
"Is someone there?"
They both try to move aside.
But neither can change direction.
They draw closer.
Closer.
Closer.
Until finally...
They collide.
For a single instant, they seem to become one orb.
The white light and the red light mix together.
But they immediately begin pushing each other away.
Like two substances incapable of merging.
As if reality itself were saying that this should not exist.
The entire Tunnel begins to warp.
The light flickers.
Space cracks apart.
The silence shatters.
Everything begins filling with interference.
Reality stops behaving as it should.
The impact blasts both souls out of the Tunnel.
Silence.
An immense blue sky stretches across the horizon.
Nothing extraordinary happens.
Only a tiny crack appears for an instant.
So small that anyone would think it was an illusion.
A small white-and-red orb falls from it.
It descends through the clouds.
Crosses the sky.
Flies over an enormous forest.
And finally crashes into the ground.
The earth caves in, forming a crater.
Leaves fly in every direction.
When the dust begins to clear...
Two bodies lie at the bottom of the crater.
A young human.
A young demon.
Both completely unconscious.
The forest falls silent once more.
As if it had just witnessed the birth of something that should never have existed.
