Gandy fell silent as he tried to recall the topics Rimby wanted to know about. This was the first time he had ever gossiped with someone—his own wife, no less.
“I’m not sure where to start. Some of these things happened before I was even an adult,” Gandy said.
“I get it, honey. I just need to know their names and what they’re like. That way, I can filter their personalities properly and get a clear read on each of them,” Rimby replied.
Rimby was the kind of person who could easily read someone’s character. All it took was a look at their facial expressions, and a complete description of their personality would appear in her mind.
Gandy nodded. “Okay, I’ll start.”
Gandy explained that several of his mother’s brothers and sisters had a habit of running their mouths and seeking attention by turning people against one another.
Others spoke carelessly and bluntly without thinking first about whether what they were saying was appropriate. There were also those who always assumed that everything Gandy did for fun was somehow wrong.
The worst of them had once caused a huge fight between Gandy and his only younger sister because of a misunderstanding spread by one family member’s gossip.
Rimby managed to remember several of the names he mentioned.
She would start being careful around all of them whenever she met them in the future.
Perhaps there would soon be plenty of drama in their married life once she began keeping her distance from the people her husband had named.
Still, Rimby couldn’t help worrying about the impact the family drama might have on her and Gandy when it finally happened. It felt like a time bomb waiting to go off at any moment.
“So there are quite a lot of rotten people in your family, huh? They’re not much different from my extended family,” Rimby cut in during Gandy’s story.
Rimby then took her turn telling her husband about her extended family. The personalities of the people in Rimby’s family were similar to the ones Gandy had described.
“From my perspective, your side of the family is actually a little worse than mine, honey. But overall, they’re both pretty much the same,” Rimby added.
Gandy smiled, then brought his face closer to Rimby’s, his gaze completely sincere.
“So, are you going to immediately distance yourself from the people I mentioned, my darling wife~?” Gandy asked.
Rimby shook her head. “Not right away. Of course, I need to interact with them regularly first. Just not enough for me to tell them all sorts of things about myself,” she replied.
“By the way... We haven’t gotten any invitations to family events in the past year, have we? Like weddings, thanksgiving celebrations, and things like that,” Rimby asked.
“Yeah, that’s only because no one’s hosted anything yet. But it looks like there’ll be one soon. Someone in my extended-family group chat was talking about one of my cousin’s children getting married,” Gandy said.
“Wow, so there’ll be an extended-family gathering somewhere?” Rimby replied, accompanied by a nod from Gandy.
“I think that’s when their hidden personalities will slowly start coming out. You’ll be able to see for yourself what they’re really like,” Gandy said.
Rimby snapped her fingers in agreement. “Exactly! That’ll be the perfect moment. But...” Her words suddenly trailed off.
Gandy asked, “Why?”
“You have to promise me that, no matter what happens because of everything we’ve discussed, you’ll never turn your trust away from me. Never take anyone else’s side. We have to promise that the two of us will always trust each other. Okay?” Rimby added.
Gandy warmly clasped Rimby’s hand.
“Of course, honey~”
After that long conversation, Rimby and Gandy became even more certain that the longer a marriage lasted, the more marital tests it would face.
And that topic was one of them.
