Rimby immediately choked up when she was asked about pregnancy.
It was an extremely sensitive topic for her, considering that she didn't have any children yet.
Actually, Rimby was quite relaxed about it.
But when the same question was asked over and over by so many people, irritation was bound to slowly build in her heart.
Rimby absolutely hated explaining the same answer repeatedly, too.
However, since she was at a formal event and speaking directly with the host, she had no choice but to humor her one more time.
“My husband and I still don’t want to be burdened by the presence of children, Ms. Yira. We’re both still busy with work, and neither of us is willing to give up our jobs yet. Hehehe. Y’know how it is, right? We both make pretty good money.” Rimby gave a lengthy answer while maintaining her sweet smile.
In her heart, Rimby was already dying to get up from that seat. She pretended to tuck her hair behind her ear while stealing a glance to see where Gandy was now.
Ms. Yira, unaware of Rimby’s signals, continued the conversation.
“Hehe, what a shame, huh? If only, by the time my child’s wedding takes place, Ms. Rimby’s family could be as complete as everyone else’s. Ahhh~ But what can you do? I guess your womb just wasn’t very lucky. Hehe.” Ms. Yira replied casually.
The beginning of her statement sounded perfectly ordinary. For some reason, though, Ms. Yira’s final sentence carried a different tone and inflection.
There was a mocking intent behind those words, as if she were saying that Rimby wasn’t as perfect as other women.
Rimby tried to respond calmly and with control, so it would seem that she wasn’t bothered by the way Ms. Yira had described her.
“Hehe, you’re funny, Ms. Yira.” Rimby waved a hand lightly. “But the OB-GYN said that when I had my uterus and everything else checked, all the results were normal. There’s absolutely nothing wrong. Even when my husband got examined too, his results were the same—perfectly normal.”
Rimby had chosen those words to match the level of mockery from the person she was speaking with.
Rimby still didn’t know much about Ms. Yira’s personality, so she had to be careful with her choice of words.
That way, none of Rimby’s remarks would be misunderstood.
Ms. Yira gaped, her fingers touching her lips. “Wowww~ So the two of you have already gone that far. None of the women in our family have ever needed to get those kinds of health checks before having children. Once the wedding night comes, they miss their period the very next week, haha.”
Rimby had no idea what Ms. Yira’s recent comment was supposed to mean. Whatever it was, it had nothing to do with the answer Rimby had given.
And in that instant, Rimby realized something. She remembered the personality of a certain member of Gandy’s extended family whom he had mentioned the day before.
A family member who belonged on Gandy and Rimby’s red-flag list—the kind of person they had to be extremely careful around and constantly monitor themselves when speaking with.
Rimby was still wearing a sweet smile, but the curve of it was no longer as sincere as before.
Now that she understood Ms. Yira’s true personality after just a brief conversation, Rimby could express herself more freely in a way that matched the direction of their conversation.
“Hehe, I’m happy that all of your pregnancies have gone smoothly. Maybe I’m just special enough to experience something different from most women. Either way, I’m happy with how things are right now. Hehe.” Rimby said this with a bright, cheerful grimace.
Ms. Yira’s face, which had initially been beaming, gradually slackened ever so slightly.
In Rimby’s opinion, the response Ms. Yira had received clearly wasn’t what she had expected.
Rimby understood perfectly well that Ms. Yira had been trying to provoke her from the very beginning. But she hadn’t given her any opening to succeed.
Ms. Yira suddenly rose from her seat and spontaneously patted Rimby on the shoulder. It seemed she had given up on getting anywhere with Rimby for the time being.
“All right, then. It was nice having this brief chat with you, Ms. Rimby. Maybe next time we can find another fun topic to talk about.”
Rimby gave a slight nod, followed by Ms. Yira walking away from her.
At last, Rimby could breathe easily again.
Meanwhile, Gandy walked toward his wife.
