Liam froze.
Before he could step away, Vanessa slipped behind him and rested her face against his shoulder.
“I know you still love me, Li.”
Her voice was coy.
“Don’t lie to your own feelings.”
“Let go of me.”
Liam’s voice was cold.
Instead, Vanessa tightened her arms around his waist.
“I know you’re angry with me. But I also know you haven’t truly forgotten me.”
Liam finally managed to pull Vanessa’s hands away.
“Don’t be so confident.”
He stared at her coldly.
“Two years ago, you made your choice. Now I’ve made mine.”
Vanessa fell silent.
“What choice?”
Liam took a deep breath.
“I’m married.”
Vanessa froze.
“What?”
“I’m married.”
The smile instantly vanished from Vanessa’s face.
“You’re lying.”
“I have no reason to lie to you.”
“To whom?”
Liam didn’t answer.
“Who is she, Li?”
“Yuni.”
“Which Yuni?”
“Yuni Wijaya.”
Vanessa’s expression changed instantly.
“Wijaya?”
Liam merely nodded.
Vanessa took a step back.
“Don’t tell me… your wife is the Wijaya family’s heiress?”
“That’s enough, Vanessa.”
But Vanessa only grew more curious.
“So the rumors are true?”
“What rumors?”
“They say an ordinary man suddenly married into the Wijaya family and gained access to their wealth.”
Vanessa studied Liam calculatingly.
“That man is you, isn’t it?”
Liam said nothing.
That answer was enough.
Vanessa bit her lip.
“How did you manage to marry Yuni Wijaya?”
“That’s none of your business.”
“Your marriage can’t be an ordinary one.”
Liam’s gaze sharpened.
“I’m not going to discuss my marriage with you.”
Vanessa smiled faintly.
“If you didn’t get married for love, you don’t have to stay together forever.”
“Don’t start again.”
“I just want you to know, Li. If you need someone who truly understands you, I’m still here.”
Liam let out a hollow laugh.
“You?”
“I made a mistake.”
“You didn’t just make a mistake, Vanessa. You left me when my life was at its lowest.”
Vanessa fell silent.
“I regret it.”
“Your regret came too late.”
Liam picked up his motorcycle keys.
“I don’t have any feelings for you anymore.”
Vanessa’s face tightened.
“So you really don’t want to give me another chance?”
“No.”
“Not even a little?”
“No.”
Vanessa stared at Liam for several seconds.
Then she smiled faintly.
“All right.”
She turned and walked away.
But before she could truly leave, Vanessa stopped.
“Li.”
Liam didn’t turn around.
“I hope someday you realize that the woman who became your wife may not love you as much as I do.”
Liam finally turned around.
“I don’t need your love anymore.”
After that, Liam turned his back on her and walked away.
Vanessa stood there, frozen.
But the disappointment on her face slowly transformed into a meaningful smile.
“Yuni Wijaya…”
She pulled her phone from her bag.
A moment later, Yuni’s photo appeared on the screen.
Vanessa zoomed in on the photo.
“So you’re the woman who’s Liam’s wife now.”
Her gaze filled with ambition.
“If I can’t get Liam the usual way…”
She smiled faintly.
“…then I’ll find your weakness.”
Vanessa slipped her phone back into her bag.
Unbeknownst to her, a man in a hospital staff uniform was standing not far away.
He had been watching their conversation the entire time.
He quickly pulled out his phone and typed a message.
“Sir, there’s a woman claiming to be Liam’s ex. It looks like she already knows about Liam’s relationship with the Wijaya family.”
The message was sent.
A reply arrived shortly afterward.
“Keep an eye on her.”
The man slipped his phone into his pocket.
Meanwhile, Liam had no idea that his encounter with Vanessa would mark the beginning of a new problem.
Vanessa wasn’t just an ex who had come back.
This time, she had set her sights on Yuni.
