In the kingdom of Frosteria, a land of eternal winter, the sky was veiled in sparkling snowflakes, and the air was so bitterly cold it could nearly freeze everything. This was the home of Prince Lucas, the crown prince known as the "Ice Prince." He never smiled, never showed any emotion, and spent most of his time shutting himself away behind an ice wall to study ancient texts. The people all said that his heart had frozen solid.
By contrast, in the kingdom of Sunnderlia, a land of sunshine and blooming flower fields, lived Princess Rita, a breathtakingly beautiful woman whose radiant smile lit up everything around her. The cheerful Princess was as optimistic as the summer sun. Her laughter and positive energy could always melt away the gloom of everyone around her.
Fate brought the two kingdoms together in an alliance treaty for lasting peace, with the condition that the Prince and Princess must enter into a royal marriage to unite their two nations. Princess Rita therefore had to make the long journey to the frigid land of Frosteria.
On the first day of her arrival, Princess Rita stepped down from her carriage with a broad smile and cheerfully greeted the soldiers. What she received in return, however, was silence and coldness from Prince Lucas, who stood waiting to welcome her. He looked at her with an utterly impassive gaze, devoid of any joy.
"It's wonderful to meet you, Prince Lucas. I'm so excited to be here!" Rita said enthusiastically.
"Welcome to Frosteria. I hope you can endure the cold here for long enough," Lucas replied in a flat, emotionless voice before turning and walking straight into the castle.
Despite receiving a welcome as cold as ice, Princess Rita did not give up. In the days that followed, she often stopped by the Prince's study. She brought him fragrant hot tea and freshly baked pastries, and invited him to chat about amusing stories from her kingdom.
"Prince, look at this! It's a sugar-carved sunflower I made myself. It'll bloom even in a cold place like this!" Rita said, holding up her masterpiece for him to see.
Lucas shot it a brief sidelong glance before saying flatly, "Nonsense. A waste of time. This kingdom has no time for games."
Even so, Lucas secretly noticed that every time Rita entered the room, the gloomy, biting atmosphere somehow felt warmer. The fragrance of flowers and warm tea gradually began to replace the air of loneliness in his heart. But his fear of becoming attached and losing someone kept Lucas hiding behind the same ice wall.
One night, a snowstorm raged with the greatest fury in a century. The freezing wind roared like a beast, driving the cold through the stone walls and into the castle. Prince Lucas, who had been working alone, suddenly felt a deep chill pierce the very core of his heart. The childhood memory of losing his mother in a snowstorm rose up to torment him once more, leaving him unable to breathe. He collapsed against a chair, his body beginning to tremble from fever and cold.
Meanwhile, Princess Rita, worried about her husband, secretly made her way through the darkness and raging storm to the study. When she opened the door and saw Lucas sitting on the floor, trembling, she immediately rushed to him.
"Prince! What's wrong?" Rita cried in alarm.
"Get out... I said get out!" Lucas struggled to force the words out. His eyes were unfocused and filled with pain. "I'm all alone... warmth can't come near me. It'll only make everything fall apart."
Rita did not back away. She gently shook her head, then removed her thick fur cloak and draped it over Lucas. After that, she sat down and wrapped both arms tightly around his trembling body, passing on the warmth of her body and a heart filled with love and sincerity.
"You're not alone, Lucas," Rita whispered beside his ear, her voice soft and steady amid the howling storm outside. "No matter how cold this world becomes, my heart will always be warm enough to melt the ice around you. Please... don't carry everything by yourself anymore."
That warm touch and those words filled with pure concern were like the first sunlight of dawn. In that instant, the ice wall Lucas had built throughout his life came crashing down. Clear tears streamed from the eyes of the Prince who had not cried in an age. He raised his arms and held Rita tightly against his chest, burying his face in her shoulder and allowing all his vulnerability and loneliness to be washed away in her embrace.
A new dawn arrived. The snowstorm had finally subsided. Golden sunlight streamed through the clear glass windows of Frosteria Castle, melting the snowflakes along the windowsills into drops of crystal-clear water.
In the grand throne hall, Prince Lucas and Princess Rita sat side by side on the throne. What astonished everyone in the kingdom and filled them with such joy that they could not hold back their tears was the smile that appeared on the Ice Prince's face. It was the warmest, gentlest smile anyone had ever seen.
Lucas took Rita's hand and held it tightly. He looked at the young woman beside him with a gaze filled with love and profound meaning.
"Thank you, Rita, for coming into my life and melting the ice in my heart," Lucas said softly.
Rita gave her husband a sweet, radiant smile. "I told you, Your Highness. This sun will never surrender to your cold, not ever."
From that day forward, the kingdom of Frosteria was never cold again, because the love and warmth in their two hearts had melted together into one, for all eternity.
