Arga stared at the message from his father for a long time.
“Come home now. There’s something about Alya’s family I need to tell you before it’s too late.”
His hand clenched into a fist.
For years, his father had always avoided talking about the past.
Now, just as Arga was beginning to find the answers, the man was asking him to come home.
“I have to go,” Arga said.
Alya looked at him anxiously.
“To Jakarta?”
Arga shook his head.
“No. Dad wants me to come home.”
Rania stood up.
“I’ll come with you.”
Arga looked at her.
“No. You should go home, and don’t go alone.”
Rania nodded.
Before they parted ways, Rania took Alya’s hand.
“Don’t trust anyone yet.”
Alya nodded.
Even Dimas?
The question surfaced in her mind, but she didn’t have time to say it.
That night, Arga arrived home.
His father was already waiting in the living room.
The man looked much older than Arga remembered.
“Dad.”
“Sit.”
Arga sat across from him.
“Do you know about those company documents?”
His father fell silent.
“Who showed them to you?”
“Dimas.”
Arga’s father’s expression changed.
“Dimas?”
“Yes.”
His father stood up.
“Don’t trust him.”
Arga stood as well.
“Why?”
“Because he isn’t who you think he is.”
“You know him?”
His father stared at the floor.
“He was the last person to speak to Alya’s father before everything happened.”
Arga fell silent.
“What do you mean?”
“Twenty years ago, your father—”
The man stopped.
Then he drew a long breath.
“Your father wasn’t the one who destroyed Alya’s family business.”
Arga stared at him.
“Then who was?”
“Your father was made the scapegoat.”
Arga froze.
“Why?”
“Because someone wanted to take over the company.”
“Who?”
His father looked at Arga.
“Dimas.”
Arga didn’t believe him right away.
“That’s impossible.”
“Dimas worked with Alya’s father. He knew every weakness in the company.”
“Then why wasn’t he reported?”
“Because before we could find the evidence, someone threatened your family.”
Arga swallowed hard.
“Who?”
His father walked over to an old cabinet.
He took out a small box.
“This belonged to Alya’s father.”
Arga opened the box.
Inside was an old cassette recording and several photographs.
“Twenty years ago, Alya’s father gave these to your father.”
“Why?”
“Because he knew something was going to happen.”
Arga picked up the cassette.
“Why are you only giving it to me now?”
His father looked at him with tears in his eyes.
“Because I hoped it was all over.”
“And it isn’t?”
His father shook his head.
“No.”
Arga stared at the cassette.
“Where’s the player?”
“It’s in the storage room.”
A few minutes later, they listened to the recording.
The faint voice of an old man could be heard.
“If something happens to me, don’t trust the official report. The person closest to us is the most dangerous.”
Arga looked at his father.
The recording continued.
“He’s been moving the company’s money little by little. I found the evidence.”
The voice suddenly sounded panicked.
“He knows I’ve found out.”
Then they heard a door open.
Someone entered.
The recording became filled with static.
Then came a single sentence that made Arga freeze.
“Dimas, don’t do this.”
The recording stopped.
The room fell silent.
Arga looked at his father.
“So it’s true.”
His father nodded.
“Dimas was the one.”
Arga immediately grabbed his phone.
“I have to warn Alya.”
But before he could call, his phone rang.
Alya’s number.
Arga answered immediately.
“Alya?”
There was no answer.
“Alya?”
All he could hear was someone breathing.
Then a man’s voice came through.
“Arga.”
Arga froze.
“Who are you?”
A soft laugh came from the other end.
“You found the recording.”
Arga stood up.
“Where’s Alya?”
“If you want her to stay alive, don’t take that recording to the police.”
“Where is she?”
The voice laughed again.
“Tomorrow morning, come alone to the company’s old warehouse.”
“I’m not coming if Alya isn’t with me.”
“Then…”
The voice paused for a moment.
“You may never see her again.”
The call ended.
Arga stared at his father, his face pale.
“Alya’s been kidnapped.”
His father immediately grabbed his jacket.
“We have to go.”
Arga shook his head.
“He told me to come alone.”
His father fixed him with a sharp look.
“Don’t make the same mistake your father made twenty years ago.”
Arga fell silent.
“If you go alone,” his father continued, “you could be walking into a trap.”
Arga clenched his fists.
“If I don’t go, Alya’s in danger.”
His father looked at his son.
“Then we’ll find a way to save her without making her a victim.”
Elsewhere, Alya slowly opened her eyes.
Her hands were tied.
The room was dark and cold.
She tried to move.
Someone was standing behind the door.
Footsteps approached.
The door opened.
Dimas walked in.
Alya stared at him in disbelief.
“Dimas…”
Dimas smiled.
“Finally, you know the truth.”
Alya shook her head.
“Why?”
Dimas walked closer.
“Because there’s one secret even your own father never dared to tell you.”
Alya looked at him.
“What secret?”
Dimas gave her a faint smile.
“Arga isn’t the only reason your family has kept the two of you apart all this time.”
He stopped right in front of Alya.
“Because the truth is…”
Dimas stared at her intensely.
“You and Arga had already met long before that rainy day.”
