Arga stared at the message from that unknown number over and over.
“If you really love Alya, don’t leave before finding out the real reason she didn’t come.”
The train continued moving away from the station.
Arga gripped his phone tightly.
Who had sent that message?
And what made him even more anxious was this: what had really happened to Alya?
He tried calling Alya.
Once.
No answer.
Twice.
Still no answer.
The third time, the call went straight to voicemail.
Arga sighed.
Then he typed out a message.
Arga: Alya, who sent that message about you?
There was no reply.
Meanwhile, in her room, Alya sat on the floor crying. Her phone lay beside her.
She watched Arga’s name appear on the screen.
Her hand almost reached for the phone.
But she stopped herself.
“I can’t…”
Alya covered her face.
She knew one thing she had never told Arga.
The day before Arga’s departure, Alya had actually planned to come to the station.
She had even bought a ticket.
But that night, Alya’s mother suddenly fell ill and had to be taken to the hospital.
Alya spent the night in the emergency room.
By morning, when her mother’s condition began to improve, Arga’s train had already left.
She wanted to explain.
But after reading Arga’s message saying he hoped she would come, Alya only felt even guiltier.
She was afraid Arga would think she didn’t love him enough.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
“Alya?”
Alya quickly wiped away her tears.
“Come in.”
The door opened.
Rania stood there.
The moment she saw Alya’s face, Rania knew.
“You haven’t told Arga yet, have you?”
Alya shook her head.
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Because it’s already too late.”
Rania sat down beside her.
“Not necessarily.”
Alya looked at her.
“What do you mean?”
Rania took out her phone.
“I’m the one who sent that message.”
Alya froze.
“You?”
Rania nodded.
“I couldn’t stand watching the two of you keep your feelings bottled up.”
Alya lowered her head.
“Arga’s already gone.”
“That doesn’t necessarily mean he’s really gone.”
Alya frowned.
“What?”
Rania gave her a faint smile.
“Arga hasn’t left to settle down in Jakarta.”
“Then?”
“He’s only going for a job interview and to take care of his work.”
Alya looked at Rania with tear-filled eyes.
“So… he can still come back?”
“If you’re willing to tell him the truth.”
Alya’s phone suddenly vibrated.
A message came in.
From Arga.
“I’m getting off at the next station. I’m coming back.”
Alya’s breath caught.
For the first time, she felt that maybe their story wasn’t over yet.
But right after that, another message came in.
It wasn’t from Arga.
The same number as before.
“If Arga comes back, you have to be ready to face the truth about your family.”
Alya’s smile slowly faded.
Her family?
What did her family have to do with Arga?
And why was someone so certain that their relationship would be opposed?
