Twelve Brides of the Mountain

After her grandmother's death, Liang Wen returns to the mountain village she fled as a child, only to find her name in an old registry: the twelfth bride of the Du family. Songhe Pass greets her with kindness, food, and a temple ledger of eleven earlier brides—one marked not dead, but 'survives.' To protect the half-brother left behind, Wen has twenty-one days to submit to the rite or watch her family lose its land and water.
