Yu Zhen makes her living selling fates in a city where stories are bought and sold like property. When a forbidden fragment of tragedy mirrors her own childhood and the suspicious death of her younger brother, her investigation pulls her from her respectable brokerage into the Celestial Archive of Plots. There she learns that the gods are not creators but entertainment executives collecting profits from human suffering. To escape a closed loop tragedy written specifically for her, Yu Zhen turns every unfinished story she has ever skimmed into a weapon, recasting the gods as mere characters in a better production. Winning makes her divine, but it demands the one price she cannot pay: erasing the brother shaped wound that made her human in the first place.
