Chapter 7: Results Announced
Chen Yu walked into the classroom, and the noisy atmosphere immediately fell silent. Every eye turned toward him, filled with undisguised astonishment.
He actually dared to come to school?
But Chen Yu paid it no attention and walked straight to his seat.
“Hey, Little Yu, you finally showed up. Do you have a plan? This is a huge deal, so don’t do anything stupid and try to act tough!”
Shen Fei asked worriedly. Chen Yu curled his lips into a faint smile.
“Relax. It’s a small matter, not worth worrying about.”
Shen Fei was about to say more when a strangely sarcastic voice rang out:
“Oh, what a big mouth! You actually call doing that a small matter? Looks like your romantic troubles hit you pretty hard.”
Chen Yu frowned and turned around. It was Ma Jinping, the class monitor. She was narrowing her sharp eyes, the corners of her lips curved in disdain.
“Your family is so poor you don’t even have a penny to your name, yet you still dare attend a private high school. Fine, forget about that. But since you’re here, you should keep your head down and behave. If you make Homeroom Teacher Liu lose his good impression of our entire class, dropping out wouldn’t make up for it!”
“Ma Jinping, what are you talking about? Little Yu is our classmate too! Would you let someone talk about you like that?”
Shen Fei shouted angrily. Ma Jinping curled her lip and chuckled, her eyes full of contempt.
“Our classmate? How could a dirt-poor kid like him possibly deserve to sit in the same class as us? Everyone in this class comes from a family with millions. I’m telling you, poor families produce uncultured people, and only someone like him would dare cause such a huge mess. The school should kick him out as soon as possible instead of letting the rest of us be humiliated along with him.”
“Ma Jinping, you—!”
Shen Fei trembled with rage, but before he could say anything, she cut him off:
“I advise you to stay away from him. We’re rich second-generation kids. How could someone like him ever reach us? Don’t lower your status and make yourself a laughingstock. Li Dong’er was smart. Even when he confessed his love, she rejected him outright, sparing the whole school from having to watch him make a fool of himself!”
Ma Jinping laughed theatrically, setting off a burst of laughter throughout the classroom. Shen Fei was so furious he could barely speak. He had just rolled up his sleeves and was about to charge forward when Chen Yu held him back.
“Little Yu, don’t listen to her nonsense.”
Shen Fei hurried to comfort him. Chen Yu smiled.
“It’s fine. She’s just a dog barking a few times. Why would I care?”
Ma Jinping froze. Her face immediately flushed bright red as she shouted:
“Chen Yu, you dare insult me!”
She was the class monitor, pretty enough, from a wealthy family, and surrounded by admirers. All her life, she had been used to receiving praise. Now she had been humiliated by a poor student like Chen Yu? How could she possibly swallow that?
Just then, the classroom door opened.
Ma Jinping’s expression instantly changed. The shrewish woman transformed into a refined lady. She sat up straight, gently brushed back her hair, and cast a sidelong glance toward the door.
The other girls’ eyes lit up as well.
Chen Yu stared blankly and turned to look. A suave male student was standing in the doorway. His hair was neatly combed, falling across his forehead and covering half an eye—the quintessential movie-star hairstyle.
An Xinghao. Chen Yu remembered him immediately.
In his previous life, An Xinghao had been famous throughout the school. Handsome and talented, he excelled in every subject, was a top athlete, and had a father who was a major businessman—the dream man of countless girls. Ma Jinping was one of them.
Back then, Chen Yu could only look up to him with admiration.
But now, in Chen Yu’s eyes, An Xinghao was nothing more than an ordinary person amid the mortal world. He had once traversed the starry sky and seen countless young geniuses. Compared with them, An Xinghao was no more than dust—unworthy of his attention.
“Xinghao, you’re here! Come in, hurry! The teachers will be here soon!”
Ma Jinping’s voice was as sweet as honey, completely different from her spiteful tone earlier. Even Chen Yu, who was always calm and composed, got goosebumps and felt a chill run down his spine.
“Oh, my God. Her fake-mommy act is so disgusting… Ugh…”
Shen Fei theatrically leaned against Chen Yu’s shoulder and pretended to vomit.
Ma Jinping’s face darkened. She was about to curse him out, but the moment she saw An Xinghao, she immediately put on a delicate, demure smile—the very picture of a sweet, fragile maiden.
An Xinghao gave a slight nod and silently walked to his seat without sparing Chen Yu even a glance.
But Chen Yu clearly saw the corner of his mouth twitch as he passed by.
Idiot!
That was Chen Yu’s assessment of An Xinghao.
He was not angry in the slightest. Instead, he smiled faintly, a trace of emotion rising in his heart.
A frog at the bottom of a well could never understand the vastness of the sky!
Just then, the class bell rang. The clatter of shoes approached. Zhao Yun, the homeroom teacher, walked in with a face cold as ice.
The entire class fell completely silent. All the boys were shaken—Zhao Yun was the school’s famous “iceberg beauty,” and she was single to boot!
“All right, students. The results of Monday’s intercity exam are in.”
At those words, the entire class tensed and perked up their ears. Every gaze focused on Zhao Yun. Some even swallowed softly. Even An Xinghao directed all his attention toward the podium.
Chen Yu alone paid no attention. He calmly flipped through his book, inwardly sighing: School days are so easy. They’re nothing like the cultivation world, where every moment means facing life and death.
Seeing the class’s reaction, Zhao Yun nodded in satisfaction. But when she saw Chen Yu, her delicate brows drew together slightly.
He really has no ambition!
She was angry, but did not show it. Looking down at the class, she said,
“This time, our class performed quite well. In particular, An Xinghao rose to second place in the entire school and eighth place in the entire city! You should all learn from his spirit!”
Zhao Yun smiled at An Xinghao, her eyes filled with approval. The class immediately erupted into excited chatter, and admiring gazes locked onto him.
An Xinghao did not smile. Instead, he raised his head and looked out the window, though a smug glint flickered at the corners of his eyes.
Ma Jinping gazed at him worshipfully and said sweetly,
“Xinghao, you’re really amazing.”
“An Xinghao, you did very well this time. Is there anything you’d like to share with everyone?”
An Xinghao brushed back the hair hanging over his forehead and said coldly,
“It’s only second place. The top spot still belongs to Ye Wushuang. Next time, I’ll definitely surpass her!”
He clenched his fists, his eyes burning fiercely.
Ye Wushuang—her family background, beauty, and talent were all things he longed to conquer!
Only she was worthy of me!
As for Ma Jinping? She was nothing but mud!
Zhao Yun nodded.
“Good! That’s the spirit! This time, Ye Wushuang didn’t just rank first in the entire school—she ranked first in the entire city as well! An Xinghao’s competitive spirit is highly commendable! Everyone, learn from him!”
Chen Yu was slightly stunned. He had not expected the little maidservant he had happened to pick up to be that impressive.
When Ma Jinping heard this, her face lit up as if she had tasted honey, and she gazed at An Xinghao with adoration. She turned toward Chen Yu, her eyes overflowing with contempt. *Why should our Xinghao have to share a class with someone like him?*
Shen Fei curled his lip.
“Yeah, right. He’s just handsome, good at school, and rich. What’s there to brag about?”
The moment he finished speaking, Zhao Yun’s expression suddenly turned icy as she announced coldly:
“There’s still one more person… who turned in a blank paper. Score: zero!”
Immediately, every eye turned toward Chen Yu!
