Kania looked around the cramped room, breathing in shallow, ragged breaths. The dingy walls, the musty stench seeping through the air, and the stuffy atmosphere in the back hallway were truly testing the limits of her patience. As an adult woman who had been used to living independently and being respected in her previous life, she had no intention of letting herself rot in a room that looked more like a storage closet.
Kania opened Dewi's wardrobe. "What is this? A rich kid's clothes are this bad? She looks like a freaking bum. Aren't they ashamed of themselves?" Kania thought, unable to believe it.
"Enough," Kania whispered emphatically. "This oppression ends now."
She turned and stepped out of the cramped room with her chin held high. The back hallway connecting the service area to the kitchen was quiet, though the bustle of preparations for the party upstairs echoed faintly down from above.
Kania's eyes sharpened when she spotted a woman in a dark-blue maid's uniform standing casually against the kitchen door, absorbed in her phone and paying no attention to the pile of work waiting for her.
"Hey, you!" Kania called out in a loud, commanding voice.
The maid—Bi Narti, a senior servant who had taken advantage of Dewi's fear more than anyone else—lowered her phone lazily. Her face crumpled with confusion and irritation. She looked Kania up and down with open disdain.
"Were you calling me, huh?" the maid shot back, narrowing her eyes.
Kania was stunned for a moment. She drew a short breath and shook her head. Good grief... even the servants treated the owner of this house like dirt. Just how badly was the hierarchy in this house broken? Kania thought to herself.
But instead of shrinking back like the old Dewi would have, Kania merely curved her lips into a cold smile. She stepped closer with an elegant yet intimidating air.
"Of course I was calling you! Who else would I be calling? You're the only one in this hallway. Get over here!" Kania ordered, her voice so authoritative that it seemed to pierce the cramped space.
Bi Narti flinched in shock. She had never heard Dewi speak like that. Usually, the innocent girl kept her head down, spoke in a soft whisper, and addressed every servant with extreme deference.
"Looks like you've gotten brave, huh!" the maid shouted, straightening up as she tried to intimidate Kania in return. "I'll report you to Madam! Just you wait!"
"You're a servant, so why are you running your mouth? Get over here!" Kania demanded, refusing to back down and cutting off the threat without so much as a blink.
"You!" the maid spat, her eyes widening as her chest heaved with rage at feeling her dignity insulted by this family's "discarded child."
Kania hissed softly, then folded her arms across her chest. "Tch. Help me move my things upstairs. I want a room that's spacious and comfortable!"
"What?!" The maid let out a shrill laugh, thick with fury and contempt. "Don't joke around! You're nothing but an unwanted child in this house! Madam will punish you when she finds out you dared to act like this! You'd better wait for Madam to come downstairs. I won't obey your orders without Madam's permission!"

As the transparent blue words faded before her eyes, Kania felt a wave of cold air suddenly center around them. Her pupils, dull only a moment earlier, suddenly gleamed sharply, radiating a freezing cold aura.
