The Frost Jade Saber had many notable features of both a gun and a sword. It could switch between one-handed and two-handed use. Its blade was long and slender rather than bulky, allowing its wielder to attack from an extremely safe position.
This was a meow sword!
It was Shi You's favorite cold weapon!
Three zombies fell, granting six experience points and dropping one card. He didn't check what the card was. He reached out and touched the cluster of light drifting from the zombie's body, picked up the card, and put it into his card slots before charging toward the next zombie.
With the frost dew of the Frost Jade Saber, he didn't need to dodge the filthy blood spraying from the zombies' wounds. It saved him a great deal of energy.
Before long, Shi You had wiped out all the zombies on the street.
Including the ones from earlier, he had gotten two cards.
Shi You's luck wasn't bad. One was a box of biscuits, and the other was a box of mineral water.
They were still just food and water, but at least they weren't only one or two bottles anymore.
When he reached another street, there were three scattered zombies.
After Shi You dispatched them easily, the next street had fewer zombies—only two. The street after that had three.
Shi You couldn't help sighing.
In his past life, seeing only a few zombies on the street would have been cause for celebration.
It was a symbol of safety.
But now he needed to level up. So few zombies truly weren't enough.
Of course, there were places packed with zombies, like malls. But with his current level, going somewhere like that would be no different from begging for death.
Shi You used the tip of his sword to flip up a zombie's wrist and looked at the watch it was wearing. The hour hand was approaching five in the afternoon.
Although the last few streets had held only a small number of zombies, the first street had been relatively crowded. Killing a few more zombies now should finally be enough for him to level up.
So from now on, while looking for a shelter, he would kill zombies along the way. There was no need to deliberately seek them out anymore.
A shelter in the apocalypse had to meet a few conditions.
The first was the floor.
It shouldn't be too high or too low.
If it was too high, escaping would be difficult if something unexpected happened.
If it was too low, the zombies wandering the streets could climb up easily.
Generally speaking, the fourth or fifth floor was ideal.
But Shi You had the Falling Feather Ring, so he could stay higher up—more than ten floors, for example. With a ninety percent reduction in fall damage, plus the increased Vitality he gained after leveling up, jumping down from the tenth floor would be easy.
He should also avoid buildings right beside the street.
And he should stay away from places with large numbers of zombies, such as malls.
Beyond that, there were no other requirements. This was only a temporary shelter, not a long-term refuge. As long as it was reasonably safe, that was enough.
Shi You looked around and chose a newly built residential complex not far away. It had only recently been completed, and its occupancy rate was low, making it an excellent temporary shelter.
Shi You walked toward the entrance to the residential complex. A few zombies blocked his way, but he dispatched them easily. When he reached the entrance, the level-up notification rang out.
All of Shi You's stats increased by another five points. Without hesitation, he assigned his free attribute points to Agility.
His Agility reached forty-four points, which was terrifyingly high.
Shi You swung Frost Jade at incredible speed. The longsword became invisible, leaving behind only traces of ice crystals that formed a protective shield.
“Raaagh!”
The few zombies inside the entrance were drawn by the sharp ringing of Frost Jade as it swung. Shi You slashed the iron gate once with his sword, then instantly transformed into a shadow and shot through.
Before the zombies could react, Shi You appeared behind them and began sheathing his sword.
Then the zombies' heads fell to the ground at the same time.
Shi You looked into the residential complex. Opposite the main gate was a small courtyard with exercise equipment for the elderly.
There weren't many zombies in the complex. Its occupancy rate had already been low, and on top of that, the apocalypse had arrived at noon, when most people were out at work.
Shi You surveyed the nearby floors, choosing the most suitable shelter while killing zombies along the way.
“Hey, mister! You there! Over here!”
Just as Shi You had chosen a shelter and was about to walk there, a sweet voice suddenly came from above.
Shi You instinctively looked up. On the fourth-floor balcony stood a woman wearing a thin camisole. She had a beautiful face and an excellent figure.
When she saw Shi You looking up, the young woman immediately flashed him a seductive smile. She tugged down the already revealing fabric a little farther, exposing more of her smooth, pale skin.
“Mister, please help me! I'll do anything you want!”
As she said this, the young woman couldn't help cursing inwardly.
Her luck was awful!
She worked the night shift.
When the Doomsday Game arrived, she had been asleep.
Even when people were sleeping, the Doomsday Game's announcement would appear in their dreams, forcing them to wake up immediately.
But after she woke up, the announcement was gone. She had assumed it was only a nightmare and drowsily went back to sleep.
It wasn't until the zombies' pounding on her door woke her that she looked through the peephole and saw a neighbor having his heart torn out by a zombie. Only then did she realize that the notification window from earlier hadn't been a dream. But by then, it was already too late.
She hadn't stockpiled any food at home. She had also been dieting, so she hadn't bought any snacks.
The tap water was still running, but the notification window had said that the water contained the zombie virus as well.
Without food or water, she could survive for a few days on the daily supplies she received. But the zombies outside her door had been savagely pounding on her security door for some time now. Who knew how much longer it could hold?
As for tying curtains and bedding together into a rope and escaping through the window…
The young woman had considered that too. But after seeing someone in the building across from hers use the same method to escape, only to run out of strength, fall from midair, and attract a horde of zombies that devoured him, she had abandoned the idea completely.
Just as she had no idea what to do, a man suddenly walked into the complex. He held a blue longsword and killed zombies as easily as chopping vegetables. If this man reached out to help her, she would definitely be able to escape danger.
But… why would he help her?
Just because he saw someone in trouble and wanted to lend a hand?
Give her a break. She didn't deny that people like that might really exist, but they were a tiny minority.
All she had was this body, which had made her a great deal of money in the past.
So she changed into an extremely revealing outfit and called out to Shi You as he was about to leave.
She already knew it was dangerous.
Because even if Shi You decided to help her, what if he was a pervert? Her fate would be even more miserable.
But she had to take the risk!
Taking the risk still gave her a chance to survive. If she let Shi You leave, death was her only option.
Therefore…
“Mister, I'm really scared. Could you come up and help me?”
The young woman tried to show off her figure, pleading with Shi You with imploring eyes.
