The main event finally began. The roar of the students' cheers started filling the school field as the guest star came onstage and began performing.
All the students enjoyed the songs and cheered in front of the stage, including Karin and her classmates.
As the afternoon wore on, the event grew livelier and hotter. Some students chose to find shade, but others remained enthusiastic.
During a brief break, one of the student council officers, Dayat, climbed onto the stage and addressed all the students.
"Guys, since it's getting hotter, we're going to spray you with water to cool you down. Are you okay with that?" he asked into the mic.
"YEEEEES!" all the students shouted enthusiastically. Even the students who had been hiding in the shade returned to the middle of the field at the call.
"All right, don't forget to put away your phones, headsets, and laptops for now, okay? We don't want them to get wet," Dayat said once more.
Students who had electronic devices in their pockets rushed to their classrooms to put their belongings away, then returned to the middle of the field to enjoy the music again.
The guest star returned to the stage and continued livening up Karin's school's anniversary celebration. The hoses were already set up and ready to spray the students. Karin and several of her friends chose to move aside because they didn't want to get wet. Besides, after the event ended, Karin still had an evaluation meeting with the other student council officers before she could go home.
The event was almost over when the band's vocalist took the mic and began to speak.
"This next song will be the last one we perform, and there's one prize for someone lucky," he said, making the students curious.
"WHAT IS IT?" the students asked.
"It's a secret. Now let's start our final song!"
After that, they played a song that was viral at the time. The students cheered even more, livening up the event.
Suddenly, the drummer pulled another drumstick from his bag and threw the one he had been using all along. One stick went flying and was caught in a scramble by the students. They screamed in disbelief when they realized the band was giving away a signed drumstick for free.
Karin and several of her friends, including Lena, pushed into the crowd because they wanted to get that last drumstick. Then the drummer threw it in a direction far away from Karin and her friends.
"Aww, it's going that way," Lena said.
"Wow, yeah. We're out of luck, hahaha," Karin replied, and they laughed together while continuing to enjoy the show.
The talent show finally ended, and the students were dismissed, except for the student council officers and a few students who still had responsibilities.
"Rin, are you going to the student council room?" Mada asked when he saw Karin packing up her things at her desk.
"Yeah. Why?" Karin asked.
"Here," Mada said, handing her some money.
Karin looked confused.
"What's this for?" she asked.
"To pay you back for printing Mr. Hari's assignment yesterday," Mada replied.
"Oh. Isn't this too much?" she asked after counting the money Mada had given her.
"Nah. You printed it in the middle of the night," Mada answered.
"You're so extra, but thanks," Karin said.
"No problem. I'm heading home first, okay? Be careful on your way home later," Mada said, suddenly ruffling Karin's hair.
Karin froze. She tried to process what had just happened and touched her head.
Before she could respond to Mada, Karin saw that he had already left.
"Rin?" someone called from the doorway of her classroom. It was Jidan.
"Yeah? Oh, wait a second," Karin replied after realizing that Jidan had come to pick her up so they could go to the student council room.
Karin and Jidan went to the student council room together to evaluate that day's event. They didn't discuss much because the event had gone according to plan. Besides, they were already exhausted from a full week of activities.
Karin's father picked her up because it had gotten so late in the afternoon.
That day, Karin decided to rest as soon as she had cleaned herself up. Karin's parents understood because they had seen their daughter busy with school activities all week.
