“I’m here, Mr. Setyo.”
The voice came from Dr. Davin. The man emerged from behind the crowd. Although his face looked tired, his eyes burned with fire.
Davin stopped right in front of Setyo, Nanik’s husband. The man’s imposing rank didn’t intimidate Davin in the slightest. Quite the opposite—he stared back even more boldly.
“If you have business with me, come to my office. If I’m not there, wait according to this hospital’s procedures. If you refuse to leave, don’t force your way in, especially not to the point of disturbing patients in this hospital.”
Setyo looked shocked by Davin’s answer. His ego had been pricked by a young doctor who wasn’t the least bit intimidated by him.
Hearing Davin’s response, Setyo immediately knew the man wasn’t stupid, contrary to what his wife had said. Setyo shot Nanik a scornful look, making the woman swallow nervously. “Honey, he’s just being difficult, right?”
“And as for you, Ms. Nanik, didn’t Nurse Derra already explain why we can’t perform surgery on your son yet? Mr. Setyo, you claim to be an important person. You should understand how this hospital’s procedures work.”
Setyo cleared his throat in embarrassment, suddenly losing all the courage he’d brought from home. Dr. Davin really did have a sharp mouth, but unfortunately, he also had the expertise and authority to back it up, making it difficult for Setyo to respond.
One wrong answer and the media would tear him apart. The good image he’d worked so hard to maintain would vanish in the blink of an eye. Setyo didn’t want that.
“Do you need any further explanation, Mr. Setyo? If not, your son needs his family’s support more than anything. Not someone seeking validation through the title he carries.”
“You… watch your mouth!”
“I don’t need your judgment. Don’t cause any more trouble here, and take all your people and their cameras with you,” Davin said firmly, making it clear he wouldn’t be contradicted. His words carried absolute authority.
Already humiliated, Setyo had no choice but to pull his wife away, successfully dispersing the crowd. “Babe, we’re not done teaching that arrogant doctor a lesson.”
“Shut up, Nanik, or we’ll get an even worse reputation. You really are an idiot—you can’t even judge people properly. Can’t you see? That Dr. Davin’s confidence must come from coming from a wealthy family. My position is on the line, Nanik,” Setyo whispered as he dragged his wife by the arm.
But as he passed Binar, he deliberately stuck one foot directly in front of Nanik, making the woman trip and go sprawling onto the floor.
“Ow… Who the hell got in my way?” Nanik shouted furiously, clutching her aching lower back.
“Me! But I didn’t do it on purpose,” Binar said casually.
“Liar! You definitely did it on purpose.”
“Fine, sorry,” Binar replied curtly, pretending to be sincere.
“Babe, she insulted me.”
“Just ignore her, or our reputation will get even worse.”
Ignoring Nanik’s whining, Setyo led his wife away, half-dragging her as they disappeared from the crowd.
“Wow, you’re really brave! You must’ve been fed up with that husband-and-wife duo, huh?”
Binar let out a bright laugh at Nurse Derra’s comment. Then her gaze fell on Davin.
Their eyes met, and for the first time, Binar felt the man’s gaze soften toward her. It looked gentle and… wait! Was he thanking her with his eyes?
No, never mind. Binar was probably just being full of herself.
Since she still had business to take care of, Binar continued on her way.
“Are you following me again?”
Binar had already passed Dr. Davin, but when she heard him suddenly say something, she abruptly turned around. “What did you say, Doctor?”
“Are you so eager to be with me that you have to follow me wherever I go?” Davin snorted, clearly looking down on the girl.
Binar stood there dumbfounded. She was completely baffled. Just a few minutes ago, Davin had looked at her amicably, but now he was staring at her again as if he wanted to swallow her alive.
Suspicious! This guy has multiple personalities. Binar was utterly confused.
“You said I was following Dr. Davin?”
“Yes.”
“But I’m sorry if I’m dashing the doctor’s hopes. I do have somewhere to go in this hospital, and…” Binar deliberately paused, shaking her head over and over, her eyes sparkling brightly. “And it’s not to see Dr. Davin.”
Binar’s innocent smile made Davin’s ears turn red. Luckily, no one else was around anymore, so nobody saw his embarrassing reaction.
“Ahem! So where are you going? Are you a patient? You look healthy.”
Davin’s barrage of questions only confused Binar further. Was she allowed to think the doctor actually cared about her? No, forget it. Binar really did have an extremely high opinion of herself.
“I’ll be going now, Doc. See you!”
“Hey, wait. You haven’t answered my question, Binar.”
Binar kept hurrying away, practically breaking into a jog. Good grief, her chest was fluttering. Was she just nervous, or was she having a heart attack? This was all because Davin had suddenly started acting so friendly.
It wasn’t that Binar disliked it. She just wasn’t ready for Davin’s sudden change.
“There’s no way I’m getting flustered just because he asked me three questions, right?” Binar shook her head, her expression horrified.
What a cheap heart she had!
To be continued.
