The man's lips curled into a smirk as he leaned his face closer. “I know everything about you—even what's in your heart?”
“Oh God, we're back to square one again. Where did the Angga who was just so warm and looked like he loved me go?” Kinanti thought.
The corner of the man's mouth lifted. “I love you in my own way,” Angga said softly, but his words made the hairs on Kinanti's neck stand on end.
Love her in his own way? Oh God, what if Mr. Angga had become a psychopath because of what happened back then? One minute he was kind, the next he was cruel. Kinanti's heart kept chattering.
At last, the car reached the house. Kinanti got out and headed straight for her room, no longer caring about the man who was always playing with her feelings. She had not even made it inside when Angga grabbed her hand.
“You're getting off easy tonight, but don't expect that tomorrow night.” Once again, the man smiled mockingly at Kinanti.
Kinanti clenched her teeth in irritation, but she didn't dare talk back. Angga continued looking down at her with disdain. He knew the girl was furious, but that only made him even more delighted.
The beautiful girl lifted a hand and ran it over Angga's broad chest. “Why don't we just finish this tonight, Mr. Angga? Haven't you wanted me badly since way back?”
Angga stood motionless, never expecting Kinanti to be this bold. Both her hands even curled tightly around his neck. She brought her face closer, the minty scent of her breath washing over Angga's senses. Her lips curved into a sweet smile. Angga truly wanted to drink her in until he was satisfied, but he still wasn't done humiliating her for what she had done in the past.
Without hesitation, Kinanti kept closing the distance until her lips touched Angga's unmoving ones. She kissed him slowly, continuing to savor his lips even though he didn't kiss her back.
Kinanti broke the kiss and walked backward into the room, still smiling seductively as she gave Angga a naughty look. “I'm inviting you in tonight. Let's spend a long night together.” Kinanti turned toward the bed and unzipped her clothes. And then…
Bam!
The door slammed shut. Kinanti drew a deep breath, turned around to stare at the door, then sat on the edge of the bed. Her teeth chattered, her hands clenched into fists, and her eyes flashed. “I need a strategy to fight Anggara Wijaya Kusuma,” Kinanti thought.
“If you only helped me so you could hurt me, I won't let you have Angga. I'll make you fall in love with me until you can't bear to be apart from me for even a second.” Kinanti's eyes flashed with menace.
The sun shone softly. The September weather was cool, especially beneath the balcony where Kinanti stood, overlooking a garden and swimming pool. The girl sat reading verses from the Quran after dawn prayer, waiting for the sun to shine more brightly.
A servant knocked on the door, then entered without waiting for the owner of the room to tell her to come in.
“Miss, Dr. Maryam is here to examine Miss Kinan.”
Kinan closed the Quran. “I'm not sick, ma'am.”
Kinan looked at the doctor standing behind Ningsih.
“I was assigned to check your health,” Maryam said pleasantly, then explained why she had come.
Hearing Maryam's explanation, Kinanti bristled. So that man trusted her this little? Kinan's eyes grew misty. She felt like crying, but held it back as best she could.
“Where will you examine me, Doctor?”
“Please lie down on the bed.”
The girl removed her lower clothing, covered herself with a blanket, and lay down. The woman in the doctor's distinctive white clothing began her examination.
“Doctor, how can you tell the difference between a real hymen and a fake one?”
The doctor didn't answer the girl's question. She only smiled, though Kinanti couldn't see it.
“All done. Please put your clothes back on,” the pretty doctor instructed.
Kinanti nodded and got dressed. Afterward, she sat on the edge of the bed facing Maryam.
“There isn't much difference between a real and a fake hymen. The only differences are elasticity and thickness. I know you haven't been touched yet, so don't let this become a burden. Mr. Angga has always been attentive to your health. Well, I'll be going now, Miss Kinan. Call me if you need anything.”
Kinanti nodded, then escorted Maryam to the doorway.
Not long afterward, Angga entered the room. The girl acted as though she didn't care about his arrival, her hands continuing to fiddle with her phone as she exchanged messages with Nindia.
“Get ready for tonight.”
Kinan looked up and glared at the man in front of her. “Are you satisfied?” Kinanti's voice was soft but trembling.
Angga's lips curled into a smirk, making Kinanti even more furious.
“You're evil, Angga! Do you think I'm that cheap? Huh!” Kinanti lunged at the solidly built man standing before her, trying to pound his broad chest.
Angga caught Kinanti's hands as they flailed against him, then pulled her small body into his arms. Kinanti finally began to cry against Angga's chest.
The man carried her to sit on the edge of the bed.
“I was only making sure you were clean. I didn't mean anything else.”
Kinanti broke free of his embrace and stared at him. “You're evil, Angga. I don't even know you anymore!” The girl shook her head.
“The old Angga is dead!”
Their eyes met as they tried to peer into each other's souls, trying to discover what was truly in each other's hearts.
