Genji was on his way to Haikal’s house when he was startled to see the family’s belongings being loaded into a pickup truck. He immediately asked what was going on. It turned out Haikal was moving to another city with his family.
“Kal, why are all your house’s belongings being loaded into a pickup truck? What, are you giving a dowry to your future bride?” Genji joked.
“No, Gen... I... I’m moving to another city. I’m following my dad to Cirebon,” Haikal said sadly.
“What the hell, bro? I never thought you’d move to another city. So we can’t hang out every day like we usually do?” Genji cried hysterically.
“Yeah, Gen. I’m sorry. I have no choice but to follow my dad. I hope you’ll start learning how to socialize, Gen, so you can make more connections. That doesn’t mean our friendship is over. You’ll always be like a brother to me. Hopefully, we’ll meet again someday,” Haikal said as he hugged Genji.
“Yeah, Kal. I’ll try, I’ll try. All right then, be careful on the way, Kal. Hopefully, we’ll meet again someday,” Genji replied.
“Yeah, Gen. I’m heading out now,” Haikal said.
Haikal left for another city with his family. Tears of sadness streamed down Genji’s face as his childhood friend left him. Heartbroken, Genji went home.
A few days later, Genji was on his way to Yogi’s house. Just like with Haikal, Genji was shocked to see Yogi’s family belongings being loaded into a pickup truck. He asked Yogi why this was happening, and it turned out Yogi was also leaving town to take over his father’s repair shop—and dropping out of school.
“Yog, don’t tell me you’re moving out of town,” Genji said.
“Yeah, Gen. I’m moving out of town. My dad told me to take over the family repair shop. He also told me to drop out of school. You know I’m poor, right? But don’t worry, Gen. I’ll never forget you. I already consider you my own brother,” Yogi said sadly.
“It’s hard, honestly, Yog, but this was your dad’s decision. You have to go through with it. Stay strong, Yog. We’ll meet again someday. Be careful on the way,” Genji said as he hugged Yogi.
“Yeah, Gen. I hope so, bro. All right, I’m heading out now,” Yogi said.
Yogi left for another city, and Genji was now all alone without his childhood friends. Genji went to the place where he, Haikal, and Yogi used to play as children, remembering the time they had spent together as they grew up. Now, circumstances had forced them apart. But this wasn’t the end. Genji now had to prepare for his new life.
A few days later, Genji’s mother returned from working out of town. After seven years apart, Genji was finally reunited with his mother. But she had plans for Genji to move into a new home and transfer to another school. Genji was shocked and felt unprepared to adapt to a new environment. His mother reassured him that he could adjust to his new surroundings. Remembering Haikal’s advice, Genji suddenly agreed to move to a different school and a new environment.
“Son, you’ll move into your mom’s new house later, and you’ll transfer to a new school too, okay?” his mother said.
“I’m honestly shocked, Mom. Especially since I’m not good at adapting to a new environment,” Genji replied.
“Son, I know you just had to part ways with your childhood best friend, but try to remember what your friend told you,” his mother said.
Genji remembered Haikal’s words.
“Okay, Mom. Agreed. We’ll move tomorrow,” Genji said.
