Weird. Seriously weird!
I was so sure earlier, while we were inside the movie theater, that all the stuff that happened in the soap operas I watched on TV would happen to me today.
I mean, come on, how could you not get jealous when your partner was getting really close to someone else? Another woman, no less.
I was always jealous too, back when I still had feelings for Danis and watched him surrounded by girls, before my heart was finally broken when I found out he already had a girlfriend.
Why didn't he look jealous at all? Was it because I watched too many soap operas? Maybe nothing really happened in real life.
Instead, Lisa invited me to have dinner with her.
In other words, that meant I'd be stuck in the middle of their date!
How weird is that!?
I went back and forth trying to turn down her offer, but Lisa kept insisting on inviting me, and in the end, I reluctantly accepted.
And now, as you can probably guess, I was in a completely hopeless situation, sitting next to Danis while he was busy chatting with Lisa. Every so often, the woman stole a glance in my direction and smiled between bits of conversation with Danis.
What kind of situation was this?
Waaaaah!!
I want to go home right now!
“Lis, can you keep Nia company for a bit? I’m going to the bathroom.”
Danis suddenly got up from his seat and shot me a quick glance. “Don’t eat that napkin! You’ll get a stomachache.”
“No way! As if I would eat it!”
As usual, Danis laughed whenever he teased me, then walked toward the bathroom, leaving me alone with Lisa, who now let out a relieved sigh.
“Finally, it’s just the two of us.”
I swallowed when I saw Lisa lean her body toward me. She tucked some of her long, wavy hair behind her ear, revealing earrings that suited her elegant image perfectly. I mean, she was so different from me, the total slob—aka completely unfashionable. She was blinding!
Surrendering myself to fate, I closed both eyes and imagined the worst-case scenario that might happen.
My palms were sweaty, so I hid them under the table while lowering my head, trying to steel myself for Lisa’s explosion of anger.
Yeah, whatever happened in soap operas was definitely supposed to happen in real life too, right?
Right?
“Aww, you’re so cute ...”
Huh?
I opened my eyes and found the woman looking at me while quietly laughing. Oh my God, what had she just said? Cute? Me?
Wait, I thought she was going to yell at me ...
“You were so feisty with Danis earlier, but now you’re like a little rabbit ...”
Lisa kept trying to hold back her laughter so she wouldn’t laugh too loudly.
“Relax. I’m not mad about your relationship with Danis. Don’t tell me you thought I was going to yell at you and tell you to stay away from Danis. No way! Why would I do that to a girl as cute as you?”
Hearing how right and painfully spot-on she was made me feel relieved—and incredibly embarrassed. Ugh, why had I even let my thoughts go that far!? Damn it, Nia, you’re so embarrassing!
“I get it now, why Danis loves messing with you so much. If you’re this cute, he must’ve been shocked too!”
Lisa fell silent for a moment, as if realizing she had forgotten something important.
“I completely forgot why I invited you in the first place. Nia, the reason I asked you to have dinner with us today was because I wanted to introduce you to—ah, there he is! He’s here! Over here!”
