I nodded in response as I handed over her ticket, unable to say a word because I was still captivated by Lisa's incredible appearance. As a woman, I couldn't help feeling inferior about myself.
Compared to me, Lisa was beautiful, elegant, and gentle. Basically, her whole image was completely different from mine. Now I understood why Danis liked this woman.
Just thinking about it made me sad all over again. I asked myself once more: why had I developed feelings for someone who only saw me as a little sister, nothing more than that?
“Great. I’ll pay you back for the ticket later.” Lisa took the ticket from my hand, gave it to the theater attendant I’d chewed out earlier, and went inside the auditorium. Once we found our seats, I sat to Lisa’s right, while Danis sat to her left. Awkward, right? Sitting there made me look like a mosquito buzzing around the two of them, who had just started dating. If I’m being honest, I regretted deciding to come here. I should’ve just stayed home, watched something on Netflix, and eaten popcorn. I could’ve picked any sad movie and cried until my eyes swelled shut so I could get rid of my feelings for Danis.
“Nia.”
I turned toward Lisa as she whispered my name. “Yeah?”
“Thanks for earlier.”
“Yeah?” I asked, confused by what Lisa meant.
“You know, for punching Danis in the stomach. It felt so good having someone act on my behalf when I was pissed off after finding out that idiot had forgotten his promise today. Can you believe it? On a day this important, he actually forgot. I had to go pick him up myself earlier.”
Oh, this woman…
He was seriously so embarrassing!
I looked at Danis, whose eyes were still busy watching the ads at the movie theater, and gave him a bitter smile. Lisa gently patted my head again, then turned toward the screen as the movie began. In my heart, though, I was still wondering.
I remembered two days ago, when Danis told Tiara and me that he had a partner and invited us to join his date because Lisa supposedly wanted to meet me. It made me wonder.
Why did this woman want to meet me?
Especially since throughout the movie, I kept noticing her occasionally glancing in my direction. She didn’t seem interested in the movie at all, and it made me a little anxious.
Why did she keep looking at me?
Was there something special about me?
Wait, wait.
Could something straight out of one of those TV dramas actually happen to me?
You know, when the girlfriend of the guy you like wants to see what the girl who’s close to her boyfriend is like?
Then she tries to get rid of me or asks me to stay away from her boyfriend because she feels threatened by my existence?
I immediately got goosebumps.
I quickly shook my head, banishing the terrifying idea from my mind. No way. Something like that couldn’t possibly happen, right?
Right?
Please tell me that’s true.
Ugh…
Why was I starting to doubt it?
As I realized Lisa was glancing my way more and more often, I only grew more panicked. I kept trying to think positively and refocused on the superhero movie I was watching. For now, I just shouldn’t think about anything else. I only needed to focus on the movie, and everything would be fine.
For now, anyway. Maybe?
I don’t know! I don’t know!
I kept muttering reassuring words to myself while doing my best to focus on the superhero movie.
But… but…
Lisa kept glancing at me with a meaningful smile, making me even more anxious.
God, what kind of situation was this!? Why was I stuck in such a difficult situation!?
I wanted to get out of here right now!
