Luckily, we were saved by the restaurant server approaching our table with our order. As soon as the server left, Galih rested his hands on the table and looked at me with a gentle gaze.
“Why’d you stop? Go ahead and keep going, it’s fine. It’s fun watching you two argue like that. It really livens things up. Right, Lisa?” Galih turned to Lisa, who answered with an enthusiastic nod. “By the way, how long have you two been friends?”
Galih looked back and forth between us, clearly very interested. Lisa was, too.
“Uhh... well... five years. Since high school.”
I stared daggers at Danis, who had answered the question so innocently. Oh my God, this guy! Even innocence has its limits! How could he just answer something like that?
Why couldn’t he just keep his mouth shut?! I turned my face away from everyone—including Danis. I suddenly wanted to get out of there as fast as possible, dig a hole, crawl inside, and never come out. I was so freaking embarrassed!
It had been a week since my first meeting with Galih at that restaurant.
From Danis, who had only found out afterward himself, I learned that Lisa had deliberately invited me to join their group date because she wanted to introduce me to her older brother, who had grown curious about me after hearing Danis talk about me.
No wonder Lisa had kept looking at me that day. I’d thought she was going to get mad at me for being so close to Danis and ask me to keep my distance from her boyfriend.
But the truth was, Lisa didn’t have a problem at all with my friendship with Danis.
Seriously, she was so weird. Normally, any girl would get mad or jealous after finding out her boyfriend had a female best friend.
And there were still so many things about Galih that I didn’t understand.
Why had that guy offered to drive me home in his car after the group date? I was used to doing everything by myself, so of course I quickly tried to turn him down as gently as possible. Again and again.
I’d never met anyone who offered to help me before. But that guy kept insisting I go with him, saying it was already late and he was worried about my safety.
It felt weird, considering I wasn’t used to anyone worrying about me like that. Danis never even cared about things like this, so why did that complete stranger care about me?
In the end, I had no choice but to agree. I canceled my plan to order a ride and went with him.
Like a true gentleman, Galih didn’t do anything to me. He just stayed quiet and focused on driving.
Even after he dropped me off in front of my apartment building, instead of simply telling me to get out and leaving, Galih took the initiative to open the car door for me. He placed one hand over my head to make sure I didn’t hit it on the car roof, while using his free hand to help me out of the car—which, in my opinion, was completely unnecessary.
After that, before I went inside the building, he asked me to exchange phone numbers with him. The parting words he said before leaving still echoed in my ears to this day.
“Good night, Bunny.”
What was that supposed to mean? I was so confused.
That was why I was now sitting in the cafeteria with Danis and Tiara—my female friend who was majoring in the same field as me—telling them everything while they responded with weirdly bored looks that only made me even more confused.
