“What do you mean, Mom?” Nessa protested after hearing Laura’s complaint, which she felt made no sense. It sounded as though Laura was actually blaming Selina.
“Didn’t you see the look on Selina’s face earlier? A girl with that much pride suddenly had to face something like that. Of course she couldn’t hold herself back anymore,” Nessa defended her youngest sister.
“That’s right. It’s because I raised her too well. I spoiled her too much,” Laura said coldly. “Even if something like that happened, it would still be better if Selina forgave Raka right away.”
“So, how was the party, Sis? What happened after I left?” Selina asked her twin older sisters in a sullen tone.
‘She’s usually so calm. But once she gets angry, you can’t just approach her like this,’ Anne thought, understanding.
‘She gets a little bolder when she’s angry like this,’ Anna thought, agreeing with Anne.
“Mom went straight upstairs as soon as we told her. She took care of everything right away, too,” Anne replied.
“Because Mom didn’t want to draw the guests’ attention. There was no point in letting them find out about that disgrace. All they would’ve gotten was something to gossip about,” Anna added.
“That’s right. Everything was settled without any problems,” Anne said.
“Yeah. Raka went straight back out to meet the guests, too. He ended the party, saying something urgent had suddenly come up,” Anna added.
‘Doesn’t he even have a brain to come up with a more creative excuse?’ Selina sneered inwardly. She grew even more annoyed when she heard that Raka had used the exact excuse she’d suggested to him before leaving earlier.
Selina suddenly remembered Raka’s words again—how he claimed she could only accept whatever Laura gave her, and that she could only live under her mother’s protection.
‘I feel like throwing up. Is that really how I look to him?’ Selina fumed inwardly.
‘I never thought Raka was the perfect future husband, but how could he think that about me?’
‘Even if Mom forced me as hard as she could about the marriage plans, if I didn’t want it, none of this would have gone this far.’
‘Raka is a pretty good future husband. But that doesn’t mean he’s better than all the other men who are also interested in me.’
‘Even so, I chose him. I thought he was the kind of man who met the criteria for building a perfect family.’
‘I’m not asking for the moon by dreaming of an extraordinary love. Mutual respect would be enough for me.’
‘I thought that if I became his wife, I could live without ever experiencing deep disappointment.’
‘Am I being too greedy for wanting something like that? Is it really greedy to want a married life built on mutual respect?’
“Selina,” Anne called, breaking into Selina’s reverie. “Don’t worry too much. Mom is going to meet Raka’s aunt to take care of this problem,” she added.
“Okay, Sis Anne... In that case, I think I’ll just go to sleep now,” Selina said.
“All right... Get some rest. Don’t dwell on it too much.”
Anne and Anna decided to leave Selina’s room, allowing their youngest sister to get some rest and stop thinking about the unpleasant incident that had happened that night.
‘It turns out my family really is the only thing I can trust.’ Selina felt somewhat calmer as she thought about how much her family cared for her.
